Heading into the fall football season, Mount Ayr was heading into territory they hadn’t ventured into for over 20 years.
The Raiders brought in head coach Ryan Victor.
Things were shaky in the beginning, dropping week 1 to Nodaway Valley, however, coach Victor was able to right the ship and the Raiders became back-to-back district champions and made it into the second round of the playoffs before falling to Logan-Magnolia to end the season 7-4.
The team fielded nine seniors including Will Strange, Braydon Swietlik, Cody Larson, Austin Cole, Evan Murphy, Keaton White, Jace Grose, Hunter Case and Adler Shay.
Under center this season was Jaixen Frost who ended the year with a quarterback rating of 134. Frost completed 79-0f-133 passes for 1,181 yards, 17 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Frost found eight receivers throughout the season, with Jaydon Knight being his favorite target, completing 32 passes to Knight for 460 yards and eight touchdowns. Knight’s longest reception went for 80 yards.
Adler Shay had the second most receptions on the team with 12 for 181 yards and one touchdown.
On the ground, the Raiders had 401 carries for 2,188 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Leading the ground attack was Adler Shay. Shay carried the rock 187 times for 806 yards for eight touchdowns. Shay’s longest carry of the year was 31 yards.
Austin Cole carried the ball 84 times for 506 yards, finding the endzone six times. Cole had the longest rushing touchdown on the ground at 52 yards.
Frost also called his number 91 times for 711 yards and 10 touchdowns during the season.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Raiders recorded 441.5 total tackles and six fumbles. The defensive backs snagged 11 interceptions.
Leading the tackles was Knight who had 61.5, including 45 solo tackles and 12 for a loss. Knight also recovered three fumbles, taking one back for a touchdown.
Cody Larson also recorded a touchdown on one fumble recovery.
Shay recorded 58.5 totals tackles, 44 solo and 4.5 for a loss.
