The 2023 Ringgold County Fair – “Blue Jeans & Family Dreams” – runs Tuesday, July 11 through Sunday, July 16 with a full slate of activities.
This year’s fair features a combination of old favorites with new attractions to draw visitors to the fairgrounds located on the north edge of Mount Ayr.

Tuesday, July 11
The fun kicks off on Tuesday, July 11 with the Ringgold County Fair Rodeo Queen and Princess Contest starting at 9 a.m.
Conference judging of the Bucket Calves/Bucket Calves +1 will take place at the School House beginning at 11 a.m.
4-H Exhibit Building project judging will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
4-H State Fair Selection will run from 3-5 p.m. (Only Extension staff, select 4-H volunteers and judges are permitted in the Exhibit Building during this time.)
Poultry and rabbits entries will check in at the 4-H office
Commercial Building booths can begin setting up at 4 p.m.
The Wishard Chapel Community Church will sponsor a free-will fish fry and gospel singing in the show arena from 5-7 p.m. All proceeds will go toward 4-H/FFA premiums.
Swine can unload and begin vet check from 7-9:30 p.m. and is required.
All animals may begin entering the fairgrounds at 9:30 p.m.
Wednesday, July 12
Wednesday activity begins at 8 a.m. with the 4-H/FFA swine weigh-in and stalling.
4-H/FFA sheep and meat goat weigh-in follows at 9 a.m.
4-H/FFA beef weigh-in begins at 10 a.m.
The entry of Open Class exhibits will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Commercial Building.
4-H/FFA horse, rabbits and poultry will check-in at 11 a.m.
The first of the fair’s livestock shows will begin at 2 p.m. with the 4-H/FFA rabbit show.
The 4-H/FFA poultry show will follow at 3 p.m.
The Conservation Station Trailer will be set up from 4-7 p.m.
Parade entries will gather at 5 p.m. at the high school parking lot.
The parade will begin at 6 p.m. by exiting the parking lot and proceeding through the main fairgrounds gate. Entries will exit through the north gate.
The South Central Iowa announce grant recipients at 6:45 p.m.
Evening entertainment features the annual Ringgold County Fair queen and princess contest and Bill Riley Talent Show, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $5, youth 6-12 years $3, and youth 5-and-under free.
This year, seven candidates are vying for the title of County Fair queen: Lauren Burton, Angelina Smith, Josie Vanderflught, Alesen Morales, Aubrey Reed, Kami Willis, and Alexis Greenland.
Seven young women are seeking to be named fair princess: Aspen Still, Reagan Lynch, Brynlee Schaffer, Libby Routh, Emma Werner, Brook Werner, and Shelby Lesan.
Thursday, July 13
Kicking off Thursday’s activities at 8 a.m. with the 4-H/FFA goat show.
The 4-H/FFA sheep show will get underway at 11 a.m.
The 4-H County Council has water activities planned from 12:30-2 p.m.
At 12:30 p.m. there will be a Team Jackpot Roping event.
At 3 p.m. the 4-H communications projects, including educational presentations, working exhibits and Share-the-Fun entries, will be judged.
Photos of the outstanding juniors, entries considered for state fair and state fair qualifiers will be taken at 5 p.m. in the Exhibit Building.
The Rodeo Clown Contest will begin at 6 p.m.
Mutton bustin’ will start at 7 p.m. followed by the rodeo at 7:30 p.m. Admission for the rodeo is $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 6-12 with kids 5-and-under admitted free.
Friday, July 14
Kicking off Thursday’s activities at 8 a.m. with the 4-H/FFA swine show.
Senior games will get underway at 10 a.m. in the Commercial Building.
The 4-H/FFA horse show begins at 12 p.m.
Make and Takes will be set up at the fair from 12-2 p.m. sponsored by Ringgold County Ag in the Classroom.
Ringgold County Supportive Services will host games in the Commercial Building beginning at 1 p.m.
Registration for the Kids Pedal Tractor Pull is at 1 p.m. and will begin at 1:30 p.m.
At 4 p.m. Ag Olympics will be taking place and is sponsored by the 4-H County Council.
The evening’s entertainment is the demo derby and lawn mower derby at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 6-12 with kids 5-and-under admitted free.
Saturday, July 15
Another big day of activity gets underway with the County Council pancake breakfast fund-raiser from 6 to 9 a.m.
Feeder calf entries must be on the fairgrounds by 7 a.m.
The 4-H/FFA feeder calf show will be held at 9 a.m. with calves to be released after the show.
At 9:30 a.m. registration opens for the baby contest with competition to begin at 10 a.m. in the Commercial Building.
The 4-H/FFA breeding beef show gets underway at 9:30 a.m. or immediately following the feeder calf show.
Laura Ernst on Stilts will be at the fair from 11-3 p.m.
The 4-H/FFA bucket calf/bucket calf-plus one show will be held beginning at 11:30 a.m. or immediately following the breeding beef show.
The Pee Wee Wrangler show, where youth younger than 4-H age dress up to show their calves, will be held at 12 noon.
The 4-H/FFA market beef show also gets started at 1 p.m.
Kids games will begin at 2 p.m. in the Commercial Building.
Registration for the Future 4-Her pet show opens at 4:15 p.m. with the show to get underway at 4:30 p.m.
The sign-up for the Bags Tournament will be at 6:30 p.m. for more information contact Aaron Breneman.
The evening’s entertainment is the truck and tractor pull beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission for the pull is $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 6-12 with kids 5-and-under admitted free.
Garrett Lee and the Relics Band starts performing at 7 p.m. and the Bags Tournament starts at the same time.
Sunday, July 16
Activity on Sunday begins at 5 a.m. with release of all 4-H/FFA animals not available for the sale.
All 4-H exhibits will be released at 9 a.m.
The tearing down of booths in the Commercial Building will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Open class exhibits will be released from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Commercial Building
Check-in for entries in the 4-H Challenge Recipe contest begins at 10 a.m. at the 4-H Exhibit Building
Missio Church will host services at 10 a.m. in the Commercial Building.
Judging in the 4-H Recipe Challenge will begin at 10:15 a.m. in the 4-H Exhibit Building.
Entries in the 4-H Pie Baking Contest are due at the 4-H Exhibit Building by 11 a.m.
The fair will conclude with the Sale Lunch at 12:30 p.m. sponsored by Farm Bureau followed by the 4-H/FFA premium sale at 2 p.m.
