The Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce is preparing for their annual “Christmas in the Ayr” celebration on Saturday, December 2.
The Mount Ayr Public Library is inviting the community to view the parade and tree lighting while enjoying some goodies.
Lighted Parade
A lighted Christmas parade will start the evening festivities at 5:30 p.m.
Parade line up will be at the Depot Museum. All local businesses, organizations and families are invited to participate with a lighted entry.
Prizes are awarded for the best parade entries. One Business/Organization with receive a “best of show traveling trophy, and one Individual/Family & friends will be awarded $50 in Mount Ayr Money.
The parade will depart from the Depot Museum at 6:00 p.m. and will continue around the square. Due to safety, candy will not be thrown during the parade.
Christmas Tree Lighting
Following the Parade, there will be a special celebration at 6:30 p.m. as the community Christmas tree is lit up on the square. This ceremony at the Skelly Station is sponsored by Ringgold Outdoor Alliance.
Courthouse Activities
After the parade and tree lighting, community members are invited to stop in, warm up and say hello in the Ringgold County Courthouse.
Bring your Christmas list, and visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus while enjoying hot chocolate and goodies offered as a Sophomore Class Fundraiser.
There will also be a food drive in the courthouse lobby. Drop your non-perishable food item in the big box.
The Mount Ayr Sparks drill team will be performing their state routine in the courthouse assembly room.
A beautiful Christmas tree display, “Tour of Trees” will be set up on both the first and second floor of the courthouse.
The Mount Ayr High School band will be playing Christmas music on the second floor.
Local Shopping

Stop in and check out some of our Mount Ayr businesses that will be open for shopping, dining, and entertainment that evening.
