The Mount Ayr Raiders wrapped up their indoor portion of the 2024 track season with a trip to Northwest Missouri State last Saturday to compete in a large high school meet.
Teams from Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa were there.
It was an exciting day at the Hughes fieldhouse on the NWMSU campus as both Mount Ayr track squads competed together for the first time in the 2024 season.
The day was highlighted with a school record shattering performance in the boys 800-meter run by Ryce Reynolds. His winning time of 1:54.30 broke his own record of 1:55.11 he set last summer. This time is also a Drake Relays Blue Standard Automatic Qualifying time, collecting his second qualifying time in as many meets.
The Raider boys 4×400-meter relay team of Dyson Thompson, Preston Fleharty, Jackson Ruggles and Ryce Reynolds won in exciting fashion improving on their season best performance list. The quartet turned in a time of 3:30.66 to win the event.
Sophomore Jackson Ruggles had breakout performances in both the open 400 and 200-meter dash events. Ruggles was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 53.28 and 4th in the 200-meter dash in 23.98. Garrett Walter was right there with Ruggles in the 400-meter dash with a 4th place finish in 55.11. Walter also placed 15th in the 200-meter dash.
Dyson Thompson and Tate Dugan nearly collected top-10 finishes in two separate 60-meter events. Thompson placed 11th in the 60-meter dash in 7.44 while Dugan was 11th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.73.
Mount Ayr had one other relay nearly join the 4X400-meter relay team with a top-5 finish. The Raiders sprint medley relay team of Preston Fleharty, Dyson Thompson, Adan Trujillo, and Tegan Hill were 6th in a time of 3:58.42.
The Raiders second 4×400-meter relay team of Adan Trujillo, Tegan Hill, Tate Dugan, Garrett Walter placed 9th in the event while the Raiders distance medley relay team of Adan Murphy, Jeremiah Gilliland, Tegan Hill, Michael Adkisson placed 11th.
In field events, Thompson had the best finish, a 13th place finish in the long jump with a best jump of 19-feet, 5.25 inches.
Mount Ayr will be back in action at the Earlham Early Bird on March 26. The Raiders will also be in Panorama on the 2nd of April and two days after that at the Centerville Big Red co-ed Invitational.
