The Mount Ayr city council accepted the resignation of Amanda Cannon at the conclusion of their regular meeting Monday, April 1.
Cannon is stepping down as the Mount Ayr City Clerk, after being hired as an administrative assistant for the Mount Ayr Community School District at a special board meeting last week.
She has been with the City of Mount Ayr since starting as an intern in 2011 while still in college. After obtaining her degree in public relations, she was then hired full-time as the Deputy City Clerk.
Cannon worked along side Pam Poore, long-time city clerk until December 31, 2020. Poore retired from the position after more than 29 years of service, and Cannon was then appointed to the role of city clerk in January of 2021.
“It was time,” said Cannon, “I’m excited.”
Cannon announced her last day with the City of Mount Ayr will be April 15. Mayor Steve Fetty inquired as to whether they could hire her as an independent consultant to train the rest of the staff.
“It’s probably going to be the largest loss since I’ve been here,” said city administrator Brent Wise.
She may help with the transition, while also stepping in to complete the remainder of Macy Jarred’s contract year at the Mount Ayr Community School District.
