Raiderettes take a top-five finish in meet

The Mount Ayr girl’s track team had relay finishes of first, second, and third at last week’s Centerville co-ed meet on Thursday, April 4.
The finishes helped Mount Ayr to a top-5 team finish at the meet. Three teams topped the 100-point mark led by meet champion Davis County with 170.5. Wayne was second with 126 points and Keokuk was third with 103 points. Mount Ayr was fourth in the team race with a score of 77 points.
The Raiderettes won the 4×800-meter relay with the team of Anne Newton, Addison Doolittle, Tatum Friedrich, and Ashlyn Murphy in a time of 11:13.69. The team is currently second in the POI in the event.
The Raiderettes 4×400-meter relay team was the runner-up in the event. The team of Anne Newton, Tatum Friedrich, Aubree Clark, and Aubree Shields took the runner-up spot in a time of 4:30.46. The relay is also currently second in the POI starting this week.

The other top-three relay finish came from Mount Ayr’s shuttle hurdle relay team. The team of Dannie Stewart, Breya Nickle, MaKel Jones, Aubree Shields was third in a time of 1:17.27. The relay is currently fourth in the POI in the event.
In the field events, Mount Ayr had top-10 finishes in each of the four events.
Aubree Shields had a best jump of 5-feet 2 inches in the high jump and in the shot put, Hayden Ruggles had a best throw of 30-feet, 8 inches to each finish as the runners-up in their events.
In the discus, Adley Dredge was fifth with a throw of 74-feet, 9 inches, and in the long jump, MaKel Jones was eighth with a best jump of 13-feet, 11.5 inches.
The Raiderettes faced a stacked field at the meet with eleven scoring teams. Their events saw great competition for such an early meet this season.
Aubree Shields captured the top Mount Ayr finish with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:14.52. Shields currently holds the second fastest time in the event in the Pride of Iowa Conference going into this week.
Two others had top-5 finishes. Ashlyn Murphy placed fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.73 and Addison Doolittle placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run in 6:08.33.
Other Mount Ayr athletes who had a top-10 finish were Jaxy Knight, Dannie Stewart, Kacie Larson, Ashlyn Byer, and Ava England.
The Raiderettes ran at the Creston Panther Relays Monday night and will be at the Knoxville Co-Ed Meet Thursday. Mount Ayr will be back on the track after that on April 15 at the Lenox Co-Ed and April 18 at West Central Valley.
