The Mount Ayr boy’s track team claimed a pair of relay wins at the Centerville co-ed last week in their first outdoor meet of the spring 2024 season.
There, the Raiders won the Distance Medley Relay and the 4X400-meter relay events.
Davis County won the meet with a team score of 151 points followed by the other two teams that topped the 100-point mark in runner-up Keokuk with 122 points and third place Newtown-Harris with 104 points.
Mount Ayr placed sixth with a total of 70 points. Other Pride of Iowa schools at the meet were Wayne and the Central Decatur junior varsity. The Raiders will run at the Panther Relays in Creston on Monday and will be back on the track on Thursday at Knoxville.
The two winning relays were the Raiders distance medley relay and its 4×400-meter relays.
The 4×4 relay team of Dyson Thompson, Preston Fleharty, Jackson Ruggles, and Ryce Reynolds won the event in a time of 3:29.38. The quartet’s time is the top Class 1A time to date 12th best time overall in any class and a season-best time.
The Raiders distance medley relay team of Preston Fleharty, Dyson Thompson, Jackson Ruggles, and Ryce Reynolds won the event in a time of 3:39.45. The quartet’s time is the top Class 1A time to date 14th best time overall in any class and a season-best time.
In field events, Mount Ayr had three top-5 finishes. Dyson Thompson was the runner-up in the long jump with the best jump of 19-feet, 6.5 inches. Colton Dredge was third in the discus with a best throw of 113-feet, 10 inches. Kash Wasteney also collected a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 40-feet.
In the individual events, Trace Knapp, Braylon Greenwell, and Brayden Hale all had a pair of top-15 finishes. Garrett Walker placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.06 and Brayden Hale was fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.73. Dalton Barnes was fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.78.
Hale also placed 9th in the 400-meter hurdles. Braylon Greenwell placed 10th in the 400-meter dash and 12th in the 1,600-meter run. Trace Knapp placed 13th in the 200-meter dash and 14th in the 100-meter dash.

The Raiders had two other top-5 relay finishes. The Raiders 4X800-meter relay team of Tegan Hill, Braylon Greenwell, Michael Adkisson, and Aidan Murphy was fourth in a time of 9:57.52. The other top-5 finish was from the Raiders 4X100-meter relay team of Rowan Sackett, Dalton Barnes, Evan Weehler, and Garrett Walter in a time of 49.01.
