The Mount Ayr Raiderette girl’s golf team played in three meets last week, winning two of them.
The Raiderettes won their home quadrangular meet last Monday, April 8, and then finished the week winning a dual against Pride of Iowa Conference foe Wayne. In between, the Raiderettes played at a tournament in Shenandoah.
This week, Mount Ayr competed at Central Decatur on Monday and at a five-team meet involving Pride of Iowa Conference teams on Tuesday. The Raiderettes will be back in action Friday at the Lady Mohawk Classic.
On Monday, April 8, Mount Ayr hosted three other POI schools in Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Nodaway Valley, and SE Warren. There, the Raiderettes won the meet with a low team score of 196. Martensdale-St. Mary’s was second with a score of 209.
Mount Ayr’s Jaylee Shaffer was the medalist at the meet with a score of 37. Nodaway Valley’s Ashlyn Guiterrez was the runner-up medalist with a score of 47.
Mount Ayr had two other top-10 finishers at the meet. Kamryn Willis was fourth with a score of 49 and Alana Doolittle was eighth with a score of 52. Other Mount Ayr scores were Izzy Gilbertson 13th with a score of 58 and Olivia Huntington 14th with a score of 58.
The Raiderettes traveled to Shenandoah on Thursday, April 11 for the Fillie Invitational. There were six scoring teams at the tournament and three other schools in East Union, East Mills, and Nodaway Valley who had players, but not enough to score as a team.
The Raiderettes nearly came away with the meet win, scoring 412 team points, just one-stroke behind meet champion Sidney who won with a score of 411. Red Oak was third with a score of 416.
Mount Ayr’s Jaylee Shaffer was the medalist at the meet with a score of 84 while three others tied for the runner-up medalist honors.
Mount Ayr struggled a bit with their scores on the second nine holes of the tournament. Four of the five Raiderettes had higher scores on the second nine from their first nine score.
Other Mount Ayr scores were Kamryn Willis 102, Alana Doolittle 111, Olivia Huntington 115, and Izzy Gilbertson 121.
The Raiderettes ended the week with a meet win over the Wayne Falcons, 195 to 238.
Jaylee Shaffer was the medalist with a score of 37. Four of the scores from Mount Ayr were in the top-5. After Shaffer, Kamryn Willis was third with a score of 51 followed by Alana Doolittle fourth with a score of 53, and Olivia Huntington fifth with a score of 54. Izzy Gilbertson placed ninth with a score of 65.
