It was quite a start to the week on Monday, April 8 for the Mount Ayr boy’s track team.
The Raiders collected 17 season-best performances on their way to a third-place finish at the Creston Panthers meet. The Raiders scored 108 team points for third, behind meet champion Creston with 139 and runner-up SW Valley who had 116 points.
The Raiders had four event wins at the meet.
Dyson Thompson had two of the event wins and set new season-best performances in each event.
Thompson raced to a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.62 and also won the long jump with a top jump of 19-feet, 9.5 inches.
Ryce Reynolds won the 400-meter dash in a new season-best time of 53.41.
The other event win for the Raiders came from their 4×800-meter relay team. The team of Tegan Hill, Brock Shaha, Michael Adkisson, and Aidan Murphy won the event and set a new season-best time, in 9:36.64.
In field events, Garrett Walter placed third in the long jump setting a season-best jump of 18-feet, 4.75 inches. Tucker Knox and Colton Dredge set new throw season bests in the shot put while placing sixth and eighth.
The Raiders had four athletes set new season-best throw distances in the discus led by a fifth-place finish by Dredge in 116-07. The others were Knox, Rylan Larsen, and Kash Wasteney.
Reynolds added a season-best time in the 100-meter dash, finishing second behind Thompson in a time of 11.70 for second place.
Trace Knapp also set a season-best time in the event. Preston Fleharty and Jerry Gilliland each placed third in the 400-meter dash and 3,200-meter run. Both set a new season best times. Braylon Greenwell also placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run and set a new season-best time in the event.
Also collecting a top-5 finish was Aidan Murphy and Jerry Gilliland in the 800-meter run, and Brayden Hale in the 110-meter high hurdles.
The Raiders placed third in three relay events including setting a season best time in the 4×200-meter relay.
The team of Rowan Sackett, Tegan Hill, Evan Weehler, and Garrett Walter) was third in a time of 1:43.90. The Raider’s other third-place finishes came from their spring medley and distance medley relay events.
