Dwight Earl Hickman

Dwight Earl Hickman was born to Charles William and Edith (Liese) Hickman at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 16th, 1937. His mother passed away when he was one month and two days old. He grew up in the Corder, Missouri area where he started first grade. He moved to Ringgold County, Iowa in 1953. Dwight graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1955 where he found a job working at Rogers’ Oil Company in Mount Ayr.
Prior to getting drafted into the United States Army, Dwight married Marcia Ridnour on August 9, 1959, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Cynde and Doug. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1960. Dwight spent time in San Antonio, Texas where he learned how to be an Army Medic followed by a deployment to Germany. Upon his discharge in 1962, he began employment as a lineman for the Rideta Electric Company (REC) in Mount Ayr. Dwight took pride in servicing the REC customers. He worked there for 37 years, retiring in 1999 as Line Superintendent.
During Dwight’s retirement years, he enjoyed raising Simmental cattle, putting up hay, sharing tractor rides with his faithful dog Pipper, watching his grandkids’ activities and spending quality time with family.
Dwight passed away July 21, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lowell Hickman.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Hickman; children Cynde Hickman of Overland Park, Kansas and Doug (Susan) Hickman of Mount Ayr, Iowa; grandchildren Caylie Hickman and Ryker Hickman; brother Rodney Hickman of Manning, Iowa; sister Marjorie Millard of Lubbock, Texas; sister-in-law Janet Hickman of Mount Ayr, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home on Thursday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a graveside service beginning 11:15 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Military honors were given by Ringgold American Legion and the US Army Honor Guard.  In lieu of flowers or memorial, Dwight would want you to take that money and go out to a nice supper with your family, thus making memories.
