The Mount Ayr Raiderettes began their 2024 season at the Wayne cross-country invitational last Thursday.
There, Mount Ayr placed 6th out of seven scoring teams at the meet with 141 team points.
The Raiderettes were led by junior Kacie Larsen who placed 25th overall in a time of 23:20. Ashlynn Byer and Aubree Clark placed in the top-40 finishers with a 35th and 39th place finish.
Other Mount Ayr finishers were Ryley Greenwell 41st and Ava England 45th.
Central Decatur was one of three ranked teams vying for the team title. The latest IATC rankings had the highest team Class 1A No. 4 Martensdale-St. Mary’s, joined by Class 2A No. 7 Albia, and Class 1A No. 17 Central Deactur.
The three teams would take the top-3 spots in the team race. Albia won the meet with a team score of 34 points after having three of the top-10 finishers including the top-2 finishers. MTSM was second with 37 points and Central Decatur was third with 88 points.
Other POI teams finishes were Wayne fourth with 9 points, Mount Ayr sixth with 141. SE Warren and East Union were at the meet, but did not have enough runners to score as a team.
Albia swept the top-2 finishers as McKenna Montgomery was the overall winner in 18:38 and Paige Popson was second in 19:34. Central Decatur was led by a seventh-place finish by Taylor Leahy in a time of 21:24.
Mount Ayr ran Tuesday at the Central Decatur invitational at the Leon Golf and Country Club. Mount Ayr will be off then until September 19 when the Raiderettes run at the Interstate-35 cross-country invitational at East Lake County Park.
