The Mount Ayr Raiderette volleyball team won their 11th and 12th matches of the season last weekend at the Bedford Tournament.
At the tournament, Mount Ayr won two matches and lost four. The Raiderettes record sits at 12-14 heading into this week’s matches.
Tuesday, October 1, the Raiderettes will travel to Greenfield to play the Wolverines and the SE Warren Warhawks.
Mount Ayr beat Lamoni 2-0 at the Bedford Tournament by scores of 22-15 and 21-11. Mount Ayr beat Bedford 2-0 by scores of 25-20 and 25-17.
The Raiderettes lost to Council Bluffs St. Albert, Stanton, East Mills and St. Alberts. All but the East Mills match were 2-0 match losses.
Mount Ayr lost to East Mills in a third set 15-13 after tying the match at 1-1 with a second set win, 21-18.
The week started out for Mount Ayr on Tuesday, September 24 at Martensdale-St. Mary’s. There, Mount Ayr played Lenox and the Blue Devils wining one match and losing the other.
The 1-1 evening set the Raiderette POI record at 4-2. That record put Mount Ayr in a third place tie with SE Warrent at 4-2 with one more POI rotation coming on October 1.
The Raiderettes will play at Nodaway Valley Tuesday against the Wolverines and SE Warren. The winner of the SE Warren-Mount Ayr match will likely have third place all to themselves.
Mount Ayr lost to Lenox in two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-19.
The Raiderettes beat Martensdale-St. Mary’s in two sets to pick up their 10th win of the year. Mount Ayr had 70 attacks in the match with 15 kills.
Aubree Shields led with 28 attacks and 8 kills. Breya Nickle and Ashlyn Murphy each had 11 attacks in the match. Dannie Stewart and Jaylee Shaffer had 10 and 7 assists. Mount Ayr had 48 digs in the match led by Jaxy Knight with 11 and Abby Larson with 8.
Mount Ayr served 44-for-49 with four aces. Stewart led, going 13-for-14 while both Knight and Shaffer each were 7-for-8 with an ace.
Mount Ayr fell to current second place POI team Lenox 2-0 in the second game of their POI matches last week at Martensdale. The scores were 25-20 and 25-19.
Mount Ayr had 46 attacks and 11 kills in the match. Aubree Shields had 17 attacks and 10 kills to lead the Raiderettes. Izzy Gilbertson had 10 attacks and Breya Nickle had 9 attacks. Dannie Stewart had 7 assists in the match. Mount Ayr had 24 digs in the match led by Shields with 6 and Jaxy Knight and Jaylee Shaffer with 5 each.
Mount Ayr served 36-for-40 with four aces in the match. Jaylee Shaffer led, going 10-for-11 with two aces.
Next week, the Raiderettes have two matches. On Monday, October 7, Mount Ayr is at Murray for a non-conference match. The Raiders will play at Wayne on October 8.
