The Mount Ayr cross-country program hosted one final meet before the state qualifying meet this week.
The Raiders and Raiderettes welcomed in many teams from SW Iowa. On the boy’s side, Maryville won the meet with 67 points Nodaway Valley was second with 73 points while Grand View Christian was third with 84 points.
On the girl’s side, Maryville won the meet with a score of 65 while Martensdale-St. Mary’s was second with 69 points.
On the boy’s side, Bradley Deering from Maryville won the boy’s race in a time of 17:11 and Nodaway Valley’s Gabe Winkelmann was the runner-up in a time of 17:55. Mount Ayr’s top finish came from Braylon Greenwell with a 33rd place finish in 20:12. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Michael Adkisson 59th in 21:41, Tegan Hill 60th in 21:42, and Rolland Adkisson 104th in 25:55.
On the girl’s side, Karson Oberender won the girl’s race in a time of 19:19 and Kaleigh Harvey from SE Warren was the runner-up in 20:47. Mount Ayr was led by Ryley Greenwell with a 28th place finish in 24:08. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Kacie Larson 32nd in 24:22, Ashlynn Byer 38th in 24:58
The Mount Ayr girl’s and boy’s cross-country team also ran at last week’s Pride of Iowa Conference meet in Mount Ayr. There, neither Mount Ayr team had enough to factor in the team scoring.
On the boy’s side, Nodaway Valley won the 2024 POI title with 29 points led by four top-10 finishers. Martensdale-St. Mary’s was the runner-up with 40 points and had four top-10 finishers. Nodaway Valley’s Gabe Winkelmann won the race in a time of 17:22. Teegan Dorenkamp was the runner-up in a time of 17:52. There were 46 total runners at the meet.
The Raiders were led by Braylon Greenwell who placed in the top-10 finishers with a 10th place finish in 19:34. Michael Adkisson just missed on a top-20 finish, placing 22nd in 20:57. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Tegan Hill 24th in 21:03 and Rolland Adkisson 40th in 24:27.
On the girl’s side, Martensdale-St. Mary’s won the 2024 Pride of Iowa Conference championship with a team score of 22 points. The Blue Devils had the top-2 finishers with POI champion Karson Oberender who won the race in 19:02. Maclaine German was the runner-up in 19:31. There were 28 total runners at the meet. Central Decatur was the runner-up team with a score of 35 points.
Mount Ayr had three runners at the meet, and all three finished in the top-20 finishers. Ryley Greenwell placed 13th in 23:57 and Kacie Larson placed 14th in 24:02. Also placing in the top-20 finishers was Ashlyn Byer with a 17th place finish in 24:46.
Mount Ayr will now run at a Class 1A state qualifying meet on Thursday, October 24. The Raiders will run at Pleasantville, one of the eight state qualifying meets. The 2024 state cross-country meet is on Saturday, November 2 in Fort Dodge.
