The Mount Ayr Raiderette cross-country team traveled to Pleasantville last Thursday, October 24 to compete in one of eight Class 1A state qualifying meets. There, the Raiderettes did not have enough runners to score in the team race, but Mount Ayr did have some good results.
The Mount Ayr girl’s team had three runners at the meet. All three placed in the top-50 finishers at the meet with two nearly cracking the top-30 finishers.
Ryley Greenwell placed 31st in 23:24 and Kacie Larson placed 33rd in 23:27 to lead the Raiderettes. Ashlyn Byer gave the Raiderettes three top-50 finishers with a 47th place finish in 25:05.
The team race came down to a pair of ranked 1A teams. Second ranked Earlham won the meet with a team score of 28 points. Earlham was led by Mackenzie Harger who placed 6th in 19:55, Hannah Frank who placed 8th in 19:57, Kinsley Conoyer who placed 9th in 20:03 and Taylor Rodgers who placed 10th in 20:05.
There were five ranked runners that finished in the top-5 finishers in the game. Chloe Glosser from Pekin won the girl’s race in a time of 18:43. Glosser is ranked No. 3 in the latest 1A individual rankings. Marie Yoder from Hillcrest Academy was the runner-up in 19:15. Yoder is ranked No. 11. No. 21 Mandeesa Vos from Lynnville-Sully placed third in 19:30. No. 24 Emmerson Jedlicka from North Mahaska placed fourth in 19:30. No. 25 Siena Stanerson from Hillcrest Academy placed fifth in 19:32.

Though a team finish was not in the cards, the Mount Ayr boy’s cross-country program sent a pair of runners to the Class 1A state qualifying meet in Pleasantville on Thursday, October 24.
There, Braylon Greenwell and Michael Adkisson represented Mount Ayr in one of eight state qualifying meets in Class 1A statewide.
There were ten scoring teams at the meet with two ranked teams in the latest Class 1A poll. Earlham would win the meet with 41 points and qualify for state as a team. The Cardinals placed fourth runners in the top-10 finishes. The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 5 in 1A.
The runner-up team at the meet and also a state team qualifier was Lynnville-Sully with 60 points. The Hawks are ranked No. 15 in 1A.
Mount Ayr was led by Greenwell with a 33rd place finish in 19:221 while Adkisson placed 67th in 23:14.
The top-2 finishers at the meet were state ranked runners. WACO’s Jude Dykstra won the boy’s race in 16:40. Dykstra is ranked No. 18. The runner-up at the meet was Winfield-Mt. Union’s Kohlby Newson in a time of 16:49. Newsom is ranked No. 28. Colton Alberts from Lynnville-Sully was third in 16:54 and Dawson Braet from Earlham was fourth in 17:01.
The Wayne Falcons were the only other Pride of Iowa Conference team represented at the meet. The Falcons placed 9th with 224 points. Eli Palmer led the Falcon finishers with a 42nd place finish in 20:08.
