It was a big night for the Mount Ayr basketball programs on Monday, December 2.
There, both the boy’s and girl’s teams collected victories over Clarke in a non-conference varsity doubleheader.
The Raiderettes beat Clarke 59-17 while the Raider boys beat the Indians 52-48. Both teams are back at home Friday, after playing at Nodaway Valley Tuesday, when Martensdale-St. Mary’s comes to town. It is the start of three straight home games. The Raiders are 1-0 while the Raiderettes improved to 2-0.
In the girl’s game the Raiderettes used unselfish play in the first half to build up a halftime lead of 44 to 11. Early on in the second half, the 35-point mercy rule running clock was activated. Mount Ayr led 19-6 after the first quarter and outscored the Indians by 20 points in the second quarter.
Mount Ayr came into the game off of an 86-39 non-conference win over Lamoni before Thanksgiving. The win by Mount Ayr snapped a two-game win streak by Clarke.
