BROCK SHAHA

The Mount Ayr boy’s wrestling team traveled to Corydon last Friday for the annual Pride of Iowa Conference wrestling meet. There, the Raiders crowned one champion and had another place second to lead Mount Ayr finishers. The Raiders saw Brock Shaha win the 126-pound weight class while Bryson Martin was the runner-up at the 132-pound weight class.

Nodaway Valley won the conference title with a team score of 223.5 points. Wayne was second with 181.5 points and Central Decatur was third with 156.5 points. Mount Ayr placed sixth with a team score of 106.5 points.
Shaha was the top seed at the 126-pound weight class. The Raiders senior pinned ninth seeded Luke Buckingham from Central Decatur in 1:14 in the quarterfinals and pinned fifth seeded Spencer Lovell from Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas in 1:16 in the semifinals. In the finals, Shaha would pin and 11-win second seed from Nodaway Valley, Jett Christensen in 3:40 to win the weight class.
Freshman Bryson Martin was the runner-up at 132 and improved to 12-2 and was the second seed at his weight class. Martin pinned Gera Berber from Martensdale-St. Mary’s in the quarterfinals in 46 seconds and won a 17-7 major decision over Grant Oesch from Central Decatur in the semifinals. In the finals, Martin lost to Nodaway Valley’s Keyin Steeve.

Other placewinners for Mount Ayr were Tatian Freeman third at 215 and Jeremiah Gillialnd placed fourth at 120. Fifth place finishes went to Weston Adams at 106, Nathan Roemer at 138, and Cordell Clemmons at 190. Tegan Hill also placed sixth at 157 and Jonathan Morales placed sixth at 285.
Also at the meet and not placing were Austin Briner at 165, Nathan Mederos at 150, and Tate Schaefer at 144.
