The outstanding career of Mount Ayr’s Brock Shaha came to an end last week at the 2025 Traditional State Wrestling tournament after Shaha collected a fifth-place finish in the 120-pound weight class in Class 1A. Shaha finished the season with a record of 53-4.
Shaha was the third seed in the 120-pound weight class. Shaha was one of just three seniors in the weight class. There were six freshmen, eight sophomores, and seven juniors in rounding out the weight class.
Shaha was 4-2 in six state matches.
Don Bosco won the Class 1A state title with 225 team points. Alburnett was second with 144.5 points and Wilton was third with 109 points. The Dons won their 17th state title in program history, one that started in 1970. Haydn Schwab from Don Bosco beat Liam Adlfinger from Wilton by a 17-1 tech fall to win the state title in the 120-pound weight class. Jesup’s Cooper Hinz was third and Wesley Sadler was seventh in the weight class.
Shaha had a bye in the first round and then faced a familiar foe in the second round, Nodaway Valley’s Ty Strode.
Shaha and Strode met in the finals at the Riverside State qualifying meet a week ago. At state, Shaha got a takedown in the first period at the 1:31 mark to lead 3-0 after the first period.

In the second period, Shaha would get an escape point, and another takedown to outscore Strode 4-0 in the second period to take a 7-0 lead after the second period. No points were scored in the third, but Shaha would advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Shaha wrestled 11th-seeded Owen Henriksen. In an upset, Henriksen beat Shaha by a 6-2 score to send Shaha to the consolation rounds.
Shaha would win in the consolation round by a pin over Jase Jones the 10th seed from Sumner-Freicksburg in 3:31 to advance.
Shaha then beat 7th-seeded Wesley Sadler from Lisbon, by a 5-0 decision to reach the consolation semifinals.
In the consolation semifinals, Shaha lost to 4th-seeded Cooper Hinz by a 1-0 decision. Shaha had another match at state for fifth place. In the fifth place match, Shaha would win, a 3-0 decision over Gage Samo from WACO. Samo was seeded 5th.
