Mount Ayr senior Willie Baker will end his senior track and field season where many dream of getting to, but few do. That place is the state meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. This comes after Baker qualified for four events out of the state qualifying meet at Corydon last Thursday, May 15.
Baker will compete in the ambulatory boys shot put, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and 400-meter dash events. The 100-meter dash is Saturday at 12:44, and he is in lane 6, the 200-meter dash is Saturday at 1:52, and he is in lane 6, and the 400-meter dash is Thursday at 2:03, and he is in lane 6. Baker will throw in the shot put on Saturday morning at 9 in the first flight of throwers.
The Class 1A state meet begins this Thursday. The Class 1A portion of the meet starts at 2:40 p.m. with running events and 2:00 p.m. in field events. Friday, May 23, has the same schedule. Saturday events begin at 9:00 a.m. If you can not make the state meet, the Iowa High School Sports Network is hosting a free co-ed state meet stream, all three days of the state meet.
