The Mount Ayr Raiderette softball team found out late last week that three of their players were named to the 2025 Pride of Iowa Conference, all-conference team. Mount Ayr had a pair of second team selections and an honorable mention pick. The Raiderettes finished the season 11-10 overall and were 7-7 in the POI. The eleven wins were a three-win improvement from last year and gave the program their 18th season with ten or more wins in the last 19 seasons.
The Raiderettes selections were senior Breya Nickle second team catcher and Keeley Wasteney second team utility. The other selection was Kensie Barnes on the honorable mention team.
Nickle was the top hitter on Mount Ayr this season with a batting average of .313 with 21 hits. Nickle also led Mount Ayr in home runs with four and RBI’s with 20. She had an on-base percent of .420.
Wasteney batted .266 with 17 hits, a home run and 12 RBI’s. She had an on-base percent of .351. Wasteney pitched in 11 games, starting nine for Mount Ayr and logged 61 and two-thirds innings. Wasteney had an ERA of 4.54, struck out 31 and walked 32 batters.
Barnes started 12 games and pitched in 14. She had an ERA of 5.20 in 71 and one-third innings. Barnes struck out 41 and walked 32. At the plate, Barnes batted .221 with an on-base percentage of .361. She had 15 hits.
The Raiderettes will graduate three off of their roster this year in seniors Allison Anderson, Nickle, and Anna Greenland. Seniors next year for the Raiderettes are Adalynn Dredge and Kensie Barnes. Juniors will be Tatum Friedrich, Keeley Wasteney, Dannie Stewart, MaKel Jones, Livia Buckner, and Jalyn Akers.
The POI will look different next year as ten of the 13 first team all-conference selections are graduating seniors.
On the All-POI softball team there were three unanimous selections. They were Wayne seniors Izzie Moore, Allie Jo Fortune, and Ava Whitney. The Falcons were top ranked in the Class 1A state poll at the end of the season and were runners-up at last week’s state tournament.
