Raiderettes on a roll with six wins last week
MOUNT AYR – The Mount Ayr volleyball team picked up six wins last week in a busy stretch of high school volleyball action. The Raiderettes won their 11th match of the season with the wins.
Mount Ayr will be back in action this week on Tuesday at Central Decatur in POI triangular with Central Decatur and Wayne. Results were not available at press time this week. The Raiderettes will host the Mount Ayr Raiderettes tournament Saturday. Teams coming to town are Martensdale-St. Marys, Lamoni, Interstate-35, Centerville, Clarke, East Mills and Shenandoah.
To start the week, the Raiderettes won a pair of POI conference matches at home over East Union and Southwest Valley, both by 2-0 scores.
Against Southwest Valley, Mount Ayr won by scores of 25-16 and 25-21. Mount Ayr served 42-for-49 with six aces. Jaylee Shaffer led the team going 14-for-15 with an ace. Mount Ayr had 13 kills led by Aubree Shields with nine.
Southwest Valley was led by Mackenzie Fast and Ray Helvie in kills with eight and seven. Elin Hogan had a team high 14 assists. Ada Lund, Helvie and Fast led in digs with seven each. The Timberwolves served 31-for-38 with two aces. Helvie led going 9-for-10.
Against East Union, Mount Ayr won by twin scores of 25-16. The Raiderettes served well in the match going 43-for-49 with 12 ace serves. Aubree Shields led going 16-for-17 with five aces. while Jaylee Shaffer had four aces. The Raiderettes had 19 kills in the match with Shields and Izzy Gilbertson tying for the team lead with eight each.
East Union had eight kills in the match led by Hayleigh Cooley and Marlys Mitchell with three each. Kathryn Lack led in assists with six. Mia Tallmon led in digs with four and Haley Willett was the top server for the Eagles, going 9-for-11 with an ace.
