Greenwell leads Raiders in pair of meets last week

GUTHRIE CENTER, Iowa – The Mount Ayr Raiders ran at two meets last week and came away with two opportunities to cut time and improve. The Raiders did not have enough runners to place in either team race however, one runner led the Mount Ayr results in each meet. Braylon Greenwell was the top Mount Ayr finisher at the Creston meet with a 22nd place finish in 18:39 and he also placed 22nd in the meet at AC/GC in a time of 21:16.
At Creston, Red Oak won the meet with a score of 43 points, but was challenged by Earlham with 45 points. Nodaway Valley placed third with 88 points. Besides Mount Ayr, Central Decatur, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, Wayne, Southwest Valley, East Union and Lenox were also at the meet.
Earlham’s David Nichols won the meet in a time of 16:11 and Red Oak’s Emmanuel Grass was the runner-up in a time of 16:31.
Mount Ayr had a pair of runners also run at the meet. Austin Briner placed 77th in a time of 23:24, and Kellon Shaffer placed 98th in 26:45.
At the meet in Guthrie Center, Greenwell led a pair of Mount Ayr runners at the meet. Greenwell placed 22nd while Shaffer placed 60th in 31:07.
IKM-Manning won the meet with a team score of 33 points. Perry was second with 61 points while Panorama placed third with 103 points.
Preston Kent from AC/GC won the boys race in a time of 18:05, while Camden Morris from IKM-Manning placed second in a time of 18:31.
Mount Ayr will have only one meet this week and that is on Tuesday, September 30 at Osceola (results were not available as of press time).
The Raiders will run against Baxter, Chariton, Clarke, Creston, East Union, Interstate-35, Lenox, Martensdale-St. Marys, Moravia, Mormon Trail, SE Warren, Southwest Valley and Van Meter. The following week, Mount Ayr will run at the Centerville Big Red Invitational on Tuesday, October 7 at the Lakeview Elementary sports complex.
