OSCEOLA – The Mount Ayr cross-country teams had one meet last week and that was a meet not far away.
Mount Ayr ran at the Clarke Invitational last Tuesday in a meet that featured nine scoring teams and 12 teams represented. In all, there were five Pride of Iowa Conference teams at the meet. Neither Mount Ayr team factored in the overall team races.
Chariton won the boys team race with a team score of 25. The Chargers had the first four finishers including overall winner Lucas Anderson in a time of 17:05. Creston was the runner-up team with a score of 52 and Baxer was third with 55 points.
There were 90 runners in the boys race in which the Raiders had one competitor who placed extremely high. Braylon Greenwell placed 15th in a time of 19:51.
On the girls side, the Raiderettes had four runners compete at the meet. There were 46 runners in the girls race as Martensdale-St. Marys won the team title with 22 points including three top-10 finishers. Martensdale-St. Mary’s had the top-2 finishers with Karson Oberender winning the race in a time of 20:07 and Maclaine German was the second-place finisher with a time of 20:26. Cora Smith from Creston was third in 22:10.
Mount Ayr had a top-10 finisher in Addison Doolittle who placed 10th in 24:18. Ryley Greenwell was close behind in 11th place in a time of 25:17. All four Mount Ayr runners placed in the top-30 finishers. Ava England placed 22nd in 27:32 and Irais Trujillo placed 30th in 29:59.
Mount Ayr also had its middle school team running at the meet. There were 70 total runners at the meet and Mount Ayr had eight runners in the combined boys and girls race. Mount Ayr had a pair of top-10 finishers. Hayden Doubleday placed third in 12:26 and Alice Briner placed 10th in 13:13 to lead Mount Ayr. Three other Raiders placed in the top-50 finishers. They were Joel Dolecheck 32nd in 15:31, Bohdin England 49th in 18:03 and Warren Brooks 50th in 18:03.92. The other Raider finishers were Braxton Alexander 60th in 20:07, Mason Starmer 61st in 20:48, and Mia Tseng 66th in 21:49.
