Doolittle leads Raiderettes runners at POI meet

GREENFIELD, Iowa – The Mount Ayr girl’s cross-country team had a pair of medalists at the 2025 Pride of Iowa Conference meet last Tuesday in Greenfield. Addison Doolittle collected a top-5 finish placing fifth in 21:59 to medal. Ryley Greenwell placed 13th in 23:52 to also earn a medal as the Raiderettes took four runners to the meet which is a showcase of the POI’s best runners this year.
Martensdale-St. Marys won the POI title with 23 points. Wayne was the runner-up with a team score of 46 points. There were 34 runners in the girls race.
Martensdale-St. Marys’ Karson Oberender won the girls race in the time of 19:24 to win her fourth straight POI individual title. Teammate Maclaine German was second in 20:05. Both Blue Devil senior runners recently committed to run at Western Illinois University next year.
Central Decatur was led by a pair of medalists at the meet and top-10 finishers. Taylor Leahy led the Cardinals with an eighth place finish in 23:17 while Aubri Perkins was close behind in 10th place in 23:31.
Mount Ayr had two other runners compete at the meet. Ava England placed in the top-20 with a 17th place finish in 24:34. Irais Trujillo added a top-30 finish, placing 28th in 28:23.
Mount Ayr will run at the Central Decatur state qualifying cross-country meet in Leon at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Teams that are coming to town are Bedford, Diagonal, Earlham, East Union, Essex, Fremont Mills, Griswold, Hamburg, Lamoni, Lenox, Mormon Trail, Central Decatur, Pleasantville, Sidney, Southwest Valley, Stanton, Van Buren and Wayne.
The 2025 state cross-country meet for Class 1A is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, November 1 for girls and 2:45 p.m. for boys at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. The top-two teams in each division will qualify for state. Also qualifying for state will be the top-10 place winners in each division will go to state.
The Raiderettes hosted a big meet for the annual Ron Landphair Invitational last Thursday. There were 63 runners at the meet. Martensdale-St. Marys was the team champion with 27 points while Wayne was second with 73 points. Karson Oberender from MSTM won the girls race in 18:51.
Mount Ayr had enough runners to score in the team race and placed fourth with 76 points, three points out of second place. Addison Doolittle led with a fifth-place finish in a time of 21:45 and Ryley Greenwell was 18th in 23:44. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Ava England 24th in 24:34, Kacie Larson 30th in 25:33, and Irais Trujillo 41st in 27:01.
