RINGGOLD COUNTY, – The 2025 city and school election will be held on Tuesday, November 4.
Polls across Ringgold County will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in seven locations (see adjacent map):
Athens: Includes cities of Beaconsfield and Kellerton with polling at Kellerton City Hall, 108 S. Decatur St. Kellerton, Iowa 50133;
Clinton: includes cities of Benton, Maloy, and Redding. Polling will take place at Redding Frontier Hall, 402 Central St., Redding, Iowa 50860;
Mount Ayr 1: Includes city of Mount Ayr with polling at the American Legion Building at 1302 S. Cleveland St. Mount. Ayr, Iowa 50854;
Mount Ayr 2: Includes city of Mount Ayr with polling at First Christian Church, 201 W. Monroe St., Mount. Ayr, Iowa 50854;
Tingley: TEMPORARY CHANGE: Ellston Community Building, 209 W. Main Street, Ellston, Iowa 50074
Union: Including city of Ellston and Sun Valley Lake
at Ellston Community Building, 209 W. Main St., Ellston, Iowa 50074;
Washington: Includes city of Diagonal with polling at Diagonal Community Building, 103 Broadway St., Diagonal, Iowa 50845.
Anyone unsure of their polling place may look it up online at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website (sos.iowa.gov) or by contacting the county auditor’s office at (641) 464-3239.
CITY CANDIDATES
In the city of Mount Ayr, Jordan Crawford and Mack Greene are both running for Mount Ayr mayor.
Three candidates – Matthew Henle, Carter Kupper and Rachael Rumple – are running to fill two seats on the Mount Ayr city council. Henle was most recently voted onto the council to fill the vacant seat left when Jessica Bishop resigned.
Tom Giles and Rodney Holmes are both running for mayor of Kellerton.
Debbie A. Munyon, Christina Noel, Amanda S. Shannon and Joey Stark are all running to fill two Kellerton City council seats.
In Diagonal, Lester Elliott is running unopposed for mayor as are David Grandfield and Ryan Parrott for city council.
Similarly, in Benton Don Zollman is running unopposed for reelection as mayor, and Sharon Bowen, Karyn Graham, and Daron Richie are running unopposed for reelection to the city council.
The towns of. Beaconsfield, Ellston, Maloy, Redding and Tingley do not have anyone on the ballot for mayor or city council. Those seats will be decided by write-in votes.
SCHOOL ELECTION
Russell Jackson-Schuitema and Zach Lynch are running for reelection to the Mount Ayr school board.
In Diagonal, incumbents Kelly Allee and Ryan Parrott are both running for another term on the school board.
OTHER
Jeff Smaha and Bob Weeks are on the ballot for two seats on the Sun Valley Rural Improvement Zone (RIZ) Board.
Zach Gunsolley is running unopposed for reelection to the Southwestern Community College board of directors.
VOTER INFORMATION
To register to vote in Iowa you must be:
• A U.S. Citizen
• A resident of Iowa
• At least 17 years old (must turn 18 by Election Day to vote)
You cannot vote in Iowa if you have been convicted of a felony (unless your rights have been restored), have been judged to be mentally incompetent to vote by a court, or claim the right to vote in another state.
A short time remains to cast an early in-person vote at the courthouse. To facilitate a last push for early voting, the Auditor’s Office be open until 5 p.m. Friday, October 31 and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, November 1. The Auditor’s Office will be open regular hours (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.) Monday, November 3, the last day to cast an early in-person ballot.
Persons wishing to participate in this election who register to vote after October 20 will be required to provide proof of identification (i.e. current and valid photo identification card with an expiration date) and proof of residency in their voting precinct.
Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received no later than 8 p.m. on November 4 to be considered on time to be counted.
