MOUNT AYR, Iowa —Iowa Health and Human Services department has alerted supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP) recipients of the program disruption due to the ongoing federal government shut down.
Since these programs are federally funded, and the government is not operating with a full budget, limited benefit replenishments will be available at the state level for November 2025.
SNAP benefits are distributed based on a number of factors. Income qualification, number of household family members, disability status, age of qualifying dependents and other minimum qualifications.
Ringgold County has a well stocked food bank in the Matura managed Resource center located on 302 North Lincoln Street in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
According to HHS, the government vowed to diligently process SNAP benefits as the shutdown ends. HHS has stated that SNAP/EBT card holders should hold onto their cards throughout the shutdown. Once the federal government resumes normal operations, EBT cards will be refreshed in due course.
HHS has indicated on its web site that EBT card holders can access their account information at www.connectebt.com.
