MOUNT AYR, Iowa —Voters across the area exercised their constitutional rights on November 4 to elect new leaders for a variety of positions.
In Mount Ayr, a new mayor and new city council members were elected.
Mack Greene overwhelmingly was elected as mayor winning 75 percent of the votes cast.
“It feels good to win,” Green said. “I’m looking forward to continuing the work on the city streets and getting the water and sewer lines sorted out.”
The election for council members was much closer with Matthew Henle garnering 44 percent and Rachael Rumple getting 29 percent of the votes registered, thereby filling the two open slots on the council.
Henle expressed his appreciation to the voters to put him back on the council.
“I’m very appreciative of the community for the betterment of Mount Ayr,” he said.
Henle previously served as a member of the city parks board in 2007. He stepped away for a time to concentrate on family and business now returns to city council for another term.
Rumple was equally as grateful for the the chance to be on the council.
“It feels surreal,” she said.
Rumple indicated that she would likely attend future council meetings as an observer to be ready to take over once she is sworn in.
Each of the newly elected officials will assume their seats on the council early next year.
