MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The MACS students treated all comers to their annual Christmas/Winter concert on Monday night.
The program included performances by all grade levels including choir performances by elementary students as well as those in the advanced grades. The program consisted of traditional holiday favorites and contemporary takes on lesser known classics. The choral arrangements were performed under the direction of Jacy Walker K-12 vocal director.
In addition to the fine performances from the choir, the MACS bands showed off their own skills in a vibrant performance spanning all grade levels. The bands were under the direction of Giovanni Walker, who shared his experiences having been newly appointed to the director position this year. He lamented how proud he was of his young band students, some of which had never touched an instrument until this year.
His demonstration as to how quickly his students learned the concepts of organized music was both informative and entertaining as he had the audience laughing as the bands give examples of their progress. From shrill to methodical the progress attained was undeniable.
The program ended with a combined ensemble that had the audience standing with appreciation.
