MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Raiders dropped a pair of close games last week, falling to both Bedford and Southeast Warren.
In Last Friday’s game, the Raiders dropped a tightly contested game against Southeast Warren 69-63. Mount Ayr started the game strong by jumping out to a double-digit lead after the first quarter, 20-10. Both teams would pick up the scoring in the second quarter as they each scored more than 20 points in the quarter. The Radiers, though, would head into half time with their double-digit lead intact 43-32.
In the third quarter the Warhawks put more points than Mount Ayr for the first time in the game, but the Raiders would maintain their lead but saw it shrink to single digits.
Southeast Warren would seize the momentum and outscore the Raiders down the stretch, which was interupted by a fire alarm being set off with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, for the 69-63 win to drop Mount Ayr to 3-2 overall on the young season.
Jackson Ruggles and Drew Graham led the Raiders with 16 points each. Ruggles also had four rebounds and two blocks. Tate Dugan also had four rebounds and Hayes Stogdill handed out seven assists.
Earlier last week, the Raiders dropped a road game at Bedford 45-34 last Thursday.
Mount Ayr held a one point lead after the first quarter 12-11 and would maintain the lead by a 19-16 margin at halftime. The Bulldogs would take the lead in the third quarter and not relinquish it.
Hayes Stogdill led Mount Ayr in scoring with 12 points, followed by Jackson Ruggles and tate Dugan with each having 10 points.
Dugan led the team in rebounding with seven, while Stogdill and Adler Reed both had six.
Earlier last week, Mount Ayr defeated Southwest Valley 69-64 on December 9.
In a game that went back and forth, the Raiders came from behind in the fourth quarter scoring 22 points to the Timberwolves 12 for the come-from-behind victory.
Ruggles led all scorers with a game high 22 points. Dugan had a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Drew Graham had six rebounds and Stogdill chipped in nine points.
The Raiders traveled to Wayne on Tuesday night and East Union on Wednesday (results were not available as of press time). Mount Ayr will host Missouri’s Worth County on Friday in the last game before the holiday break.
