Wim Banoe was born on April 4, 1935, in Peniwen – East Java, Indonesia to Inswihardjo and Suprasti. He was the sixth child of seven children. He grew up during World War II when the Dutch, then Japan colonialized Indonesia. He was such a storyteller and enjoyed an audience attentively listening to his many, many life experiences. He was among a few out of many applicants who were accepted to the oil academy in 1955. His intelligence and multi-language ability helped him excel to the peak of his career as the Pertamina head of oil refinery in Mundu, Cirebon – West Java.
Wim married his childhood friend, Soelistyati, in 1966. The family then moved to the capital city of Jakarta in 1970. Wim was a devout Christian and instilled the life in Christ to their children. He was a member of the Javanese church, Gereja Kristen Jawa Jakarta, in Rawamangun. He always helped families when he was able, such as sharing his rice ration, finding jobs, giving shelter, renovating his childhood home, among others. He was also a gifted musician. Music was a big part of his life. He translated the book of hymns that is currently used by his church into the local Javanese dialect.
Wim is survived by his sisters-in-law, Ari Bawani, Hermintayu; in-laws, Ari Sutiari, Kenny Hunt of Mount Ayr, Cherri Bailey of Loveland, CO; son, Victor Emanuel (Chrisdian Octavia); daughters, Vera Hunt (Chad) of Mount Ayr, Veni Listya Wibawani (Eko Triwidadi); grandchildren, Orchidea Ruviannisa, Orchidilla Magdalena, Jethro Jevico Emanuel Nodas, Vincent Euclid Pierro, Verlyn Laura Kay Olyvia, Breanne Listya Gale Haley of Woodridge, IL, Chrystabella Evangeline, Gabriella Listyani; nieces; nephews; many relatives and a host of friends.
Preceding him in death were parents; wife; brothers and sisters; daughter, Elvy Septyati; and granddaughter, Orchideta Byviannisa.
Consolation and coffin closing services were held at his home church with Reverend Yoel Indrasmoro officiating. Burial service was at Pondok Kelapa cemetery in Jakarta, with Reverend Eunike officiating.
