School records fall at Dave Tapps Invitational

VAN METER, Iowa — The Mount Ayr boys and girls track teams traveled to Van Meter last Thursday, April 30 to run at the annual Dave Tapps invitational The Raiderettes placed fourth at the meet scoring 80 points. Van Meter won the meet with a team score of 118 followed by Ballard in second with 111 and Creston third with 83 points.
Mount Ayr won five events. Aubree Shields won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.39. That time broke the school record in the event, her own with the new time. Shields currently has the sixth fastest time in 1A in the event. Shields also won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.44.
Emma Reynolds won the 400-meter dash in 58.25. Emily Knox won the shot put with a top throw of 33-feet, 4.5-inches.
The other win came from the Raiderettes 4×100-meter relay team in a time of 50.39. The team of Chloe Robb, Shields, Brittlyn Nickle and Reynolds broke the school record in the relay. The quartet had broken the school record earlier last week at home. The team currently has the fourth fastest time in 1A.
On the boy’s side, the Raiders placed eighth out of 11 teams with 43 team points. Mount Ayr won the 4×200-meter relay in a time of 1:32.28. The Raiders had one runner-up finish from its shuttle hurdle relay team and was second in 1:02.75.
The relay team of Jackson Ruggles, Tate Dugan, Michael Adkisson and Calvin Main broke the school record with the time. The previous record was set in 2019 by Kolben Klommhaus, Briar Knapp, Dawson Frost and Keelan Klommhaus in 1:02.95. The current record holders have the seventh fastest time in 1A going into this week.
Earlham won the meet with a team score of 131 and the Cardinals were the only team over the 100-point mark at the meet. Runner-up Van Meter scored 96 points and third place Woodward-Granger scored 88.5 points.
