MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Mount Ayr Community Schools held a Walk, Ride or Roll to school day on May 6.
Students, mostly in the K-5 grades, were encouraged to ride their bikes to school as a show of a commitment to healthy habits and exercise. The events are usually run in coordination with the national events under the same names. This year, with the help of the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Office, set up safe passage for dozens of students. The event started at Judge Lewis Park and proceeded to the school on a direct route headed east. Sheriff’s deputies provided a proper escort for the students to ensure that all were safe and secure. A similar event took place in Diagonal that started at the Fogel Lake complex and made it’s way to the Diagonal school on the south side of town. A second national event will be taking place on October 7 later this fall. It’s unclear whether MACS or Diagonal will be participating in the fall event.
