Raiderettes season ends with loss to Rockets

EDDYVILLE, Iowa — The season is over for the Mount Ayr Raiderette softball team. This comes after a 11-2 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the regional quarterfinal game last Wednesday in Eddyville. Mount Ayr ends the 2026 season with a 12-9 record.
The Raiderettes scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Emma Reynolds scored on a passed ball by the Rockets for a 1-0 lead.
The Rockets answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead on a two-run home run by Sadie Jager. The Rockets extended their lead to 4-1 after two innings after posting their second two-run inning in a row.
Mount Ayr scored its second run of the game in the top of the third inning to cut the Rockets lead to 4-2. The Raiderettes got the run when Dannie Stewart scored on an error by the Rockets catcher.
The Rockets would extend their lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run by Lanie Batterson. Two more runs came in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to extend the Rockets lead to 9-2. The last run came in the bottom of the sixth to get the score to the 8-run difference to end the game by the mercy run-rule.
Mount Ayr had three hits in the game. Reynolds, Kensie Barnes and Keely Wasteney had those hits. Payton Worthington and Tatum Friedrich each had two walks and Reynolds had one walk.
Keely Wasteney took the loss after working four innings in the circle. Wasteney struck out two, walked three and gave up seven runs on five hits. Barnes pitched an inning and two-thirds in relief.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont had 11 hits in the game. Lanie Batterson was 4-for-4 with three singles, a home run, an RBI, and a run scored. Lilee Carlson was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored for EBF. Sadie Jager also had a two-run home run in the game. Lanie Batterson was the winning pitcher in the game for the Rockets. Batterson pitched all six innings and struck out 11 Mount Ayr batters.
The Pride of Iowa Conference had three teams advance to regional final games in Class 1A. Martensdale-St. Mary’s played at Fort Dodge St. Edmond and Wayne played at SE Warren on Monday to try to advance to the state softball tournament next week in Fort Dodge.
