MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The Mount Ayr baseball team picked up two wins in three games last week to capture win number eight and nine on the season.
The Raiders won conference games over East Union and Nodaway Valley decisively, by scores of 11-0 and 11-1. The other game was a tough loss at SE Warren 2-1.
The Raiders beat East Union 11-0 at Afton last Monday, June 15. Mount Ayr led 2-0 after the first, 4-0 after the second and 6-0 after the third inning in the win. Mount Ayr had 12 hits in the game with four players having multi-hit games. Bryson Martin and Drew Graham each had three hits and Adler Reed and Tyler Still had two hits each. Other hits were from Hayes Stogdill and Rowan Sackett. Graham had a home run and three RBI and Martin drove in two runs. Jaxsen Walter pitched a one-hitter over six innings while striking out four batters to get the win.
The next night at home, the Raiders beat Nodaway Valley 11-1. The game surprisingly was scoreless after two innings. Mount Ayr scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third for a 1-0 lead. Nodaway Valley tied the score in the top of the fourth at 1-1. The Raiders took control of the game in the fourth with six runs to grab the lead back at 7-1. Mount Ayr would push four runs home in the fifth.
Mount Ayr had 14 hits in the game with six players. Rowan Sackett was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Hayes Stogdill, Adler Reed, Drew Graham, Tyler Still and Tytan Gourley all had two hits. Gourley had 3 RBI while Graham had 5 RBI’s.
Reed got the win after four innings with two strikeouts and seven walks. He gave up one run on two hits. Sackett also pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The last game of the week saw the Raiders take a surprising loss to SE Warren 2-1. The Raiders fell to 6-2 in the conference while SE Warren improved to 4-3. Mount Ayr had four hits with four different players. Jaxsen Walter had a hit and RBI while other hits were from Hayes Stogdill, Rowan Sackett and Drew Graham. Graham took the loss after working six innings. Graham struck out eight, walked three and gave up two runs on four hits.
