MOUNT AYR, Iowa — The annual Ayr Days celebration is observing the 250th anniversary of the United States with this year’s theme: “Honoring 250 years of Freedom, Community and Pride.”
Ayr Days will be on Saturday with most of the events being centered around the courthouse square area. The community celebration is filled with numerous activities, food and fun.
The day begins with the parade which is scheduled to start at noon on Saturday. Vendors will also be open at that time and will remain open until 5 p.m. The P.E.O. quilt show will be held from noon to 7 p.m. sponsored by the First Christian Church.
For those with a little more of an adventurous side Ayr Days will have a mechanical bull from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a bags tournament at 4 p.m. followed by live music with “The Dukes of Haggard” from 4 to 7 p.m.. The Mount Ayr Embers will be hosting bingo at 7 p.m. The glow run, sponsored by the Ringgold County Hospital will have participants lining up at 7 p.m. to prepare to run at 7:30 p.m.. This will be followed by an outdoor showing of the movie, “Field of Dreams” which is being put on by the Chamber and the Princess Theater.
There are also several activities planned throughout the day for children. The Mount Ayr Lions Swings and Train will be running from noon to 5 p.m. and inflatables will be managed from noon to 8 p.m. A balloon artist will be in attendance from noon to 3 p.m. and Ranger Travis will be have a presentation at 1 p.m. and the J&D Petting Barnyard will have animals present from 2 to 4 p.m.. There will also be a pedal pull at 3 p.m. followed by a foam party at 4 p.m. and the Fire Department water fight at 5 p.m..
Along with local businesses who will be open for the annual event, there will also be several food vendors. These include Cowboy Papa’s BBQ, KB’s Island Flavor and El Rey Nica Mexican. Pie and ice cream will also be served by the Ringgold Senior Center from noon to 4 p.m. along with walking tacos and beefburgers from the First Christian Church from 4 to 6 p.m. as well.
