LAMONI, Iowa — The Mount Ayr cross-country teams excelled when they traveled to Lamoni last Tuesday to take part in the Graceland University High School Cross-Country Invitational. At the event, the Raiderettes placed second and the boys were fifth.
The Raiderettes placed a close second to Central Decatur at the meet as only three points separated the two teams. The Cardinals won the meet with a score of 26 points. Mount Ayr was led by two top-5 finishers. Alice Briner was third in 22:02 and Ryley Greenwell was fourth in 22:02.7. Four other Raiderettes placed in the top-20 finishers. Tatum Friedrich was 13th, Irais Trujillo 15th, Alba Friedrich 16th and Kinsley Greenwell 19th. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Mia Tseng and Ryleigh Rumple, 30th and 33rd respectively.
Wayne had the first and second place finishers at the meet. Kinsey Prunty won the race in 20:16 while teammate Destiny Brown was the runner-up in a time of 21:48.
On the boy’s side, Mount Ayr placed fifth in the team race with a score of 124 points. The Raiders were led by a 22nd place finish from Austin Briner in a time of 22:11. Two other Raiders placed in the top-30 with Max Graves placing 27th in 23:18 and Braxton McAlexander placing 29th in 23:32. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Mason Starmer 32nd and Kellon Shaffer 37th. There were 51 runners in the boys race.
Central Decatur won the boys team title with a score of 29 points. Wayne was second with a score of 50 and Diagonal was third with a score of 81 points. Brock Driskill from East Union won the boys race in a time of 17:28.
It was the only meet of the week for both Mount Ayr teams. Both Mount Ayr teams ran at a meet at Chariton last Monday in the only action this week for Mount Ayr. The Pride of Iowa Conference meet will be next Tuesday at SW Valley and another meet two days later at home.
