Wylene Marie Stewart September 19, 1938 – January 15, 2010

Wylene Marie (Shipley) Stewart was born in Stanton, Nebraska on September 19, 1938, the daughter of Frederick and Ruth Shipley, and passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 15, 2010 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 71. Wylene grew up living throughout Nebraska during her childhood. She graduated from Geneva high school in Geneva, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Donald Horton in 1961 and lived in Omaha, Nebraska.  Into this union were born Fredrick Bernard, Donald John and Sandra Ann. Wylene and Donald dissolved their marriage and she met David Drexel Stewart. 

Wylene and David moved to Yakima, Washington and were united in marriage on April 6, 1966. Into this union were born Marlene Kay Stewart and Cindy Belle Stewart. Wylene was also blessed with four stepchildren, Judy Kay Jensen, Tina Mae Abbott, David L. Stewart and Connie Sue Howell. Wylene and her family lived in Yakima, Washington until 1976. The family then moved to Clearfield, Iowa to be closer to David’s family where she resided until her death.  

Wylene was also blessed with 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. Wylene loved to play bingo, volunteer at congregate meals in Clearfield, play cards, listen to country music at local jam sessions, do search a words, put together jig saw puzzles and play slots at casinos. She was also involved with the Legion Auxiliary in Clearfield.

Wylene is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Sandra (Scott) Donner, Marlene Stewart and Cindy Stewart; stepdaughters, Judy (Paul) Pask and Connie (Tom) Howell; son, Donald (Donna) Horton; stepson, David (Cindy) Stewart, as well as many extended family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ruth Shipley, her sister, Katharine Saatmaan; brother, Edward Shipley; son, Fred Horton; stepdaughter, Tina Abbott; stepson, Fred Abbott; grandson, Cord Abbott, and granddaughter, Cassandra Cheatham. Wylene will be missed by her entire circle of family and many friends. 

Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Stewart. A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later. 

Services were held at the Christian church in Blockton on Monday, January 18, 2010, with Rev. Scott Marcum officiating. Musicians were Marvel Melvin and Jodi Lawrence.

Casket bearers were Jack Defreece, Paul Pask, Mike Joser, Doug Williams, Gary Lee Bradshaw and Donald Horton.

Honorary pallbearers included Wylene’s beloved grandchildren.

Wylene was laid at rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.
