Rebecca Alzura Higgins Kraus
Mrs. John Kraus, formerly a resident of Mount Ayr, passed away at her home in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Friday morning, January 24. Although she suffered from abnormal blood pressure for many years, her critical illness was of only five days duration. She was taken critically ill on Monday, grew gradually weaker until Friday morning, when she passed peacefully away, aged 70 years, five months and eighteen days. The funeral was held Saturday in Idaho Falls and the body, accompanied by her son Roy, was brought to Mount Ayr last evening for interment beside her husband and oldest son, John C., in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Kraus’ maiden name was Rebecca Alzura Higgins. She was born near Hillsboro, Ohio, August 6, 1848. On September 15, 1868, she was united in marriage to John Kraus at Knoxville, IL. Six children were born to them, five of whom: Mrs. Laura McClurg of Malad City, ID.; Mrs. Mary Knee and Roy Kraus of Idaho Falls, ID.; Frank of Pocatello, ID. and Earl who is serving with the American Expeditionary Forces in France, are living. The oldest son, John C. lost his life in a railroad accident in June 1897, and the husband passed away about ten years ago. The family located in Mount Ayr about thirty years ago. Mrs. Kraus moved to Idaho five years ago in order to near her children. She is survived by two sisters and one brother. She was a member of the M.E. Church and lived a consistent christian life from childhood until in mature old age the summons came to enjoy the reward of the faithful.
