William F. West
William F. West was born in Beaudy, IL., March 11, 1871, and died at his home in Ellston, IA, August 6, 1924, after a lingering illness of many years. With his parents he came to Ringgold County, IA., when about eight years of age and with the exception of about ten years he spent his entire life here. He was united in marriage to Carrie M. Waggoner in 1892. To this union six children were born: Bessie Landis, IL.; Mabel Snyder, Villisca, IA.; Leta Harris, IN.; Eva Thompson, Nodaway, IA.; and Rolla and Charles at home. Besides the children he leaves his wife, his aged mother, one brother and one sister, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a host of friends. His was of a sunny optimistic disposition, always inclined to make the best of things and always hoping for a better day. Kindly and cheerful we found him ever during the long months and years he has been a constant sufferer. He united with the Christian Church at Clarinda some years ago and retained his membership there to the time of his death. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal Church in this place Friday at 10 o’clock a.m., conducted by his pastor, Rev. Alta M. Nichols. Beautiful flowers were the silent evidence of the respect in which he was held by relatives and friends, who were touched by his patient suffering. Hymns chosen by the family were sung by the double quartet and the remains were followed to the local cemetery by friends and neighbors whose sympathy and respect will remain with the bereaved family.
