Joseph H. Wendell

Joseph Hagan Wendell was born in Lincoln County, IL., June 27, 1869 and died at his home near Artesian, S.D., on July 20, 1924.  He had been in poor health for the past two years.  He was the son of Daniel and Hannah Wendell, and was one of a family of nine children.  When a young man he came to Kellerton, Iowa, where he was united in marriage to Margaret Ellen Johnson, December 31, 1891.  To this union were born nine children, two daughters preceding the father in death.  He was converted fifteen years ago and united with the United Evangelical Church of Ringgold County, IA.  He lived a faithful Christian life.  Of his brothers and sisters, one brother and one sister survive him, Mrs. Fannie Binns, of Middleton, IL., and John Wendell, of Eagleville, MO. Seven children survive him, as follows: Mrs. Hazel Moore, of Kellerton; Mrs. Kathleen Dye, of Elkton, S.D.; Daniel Wendell, of near Artesian; and Ethel, Everett, Raymond and Beulah, who are at home.  Funeral services were held at the Federated Church in Artesian Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Kelley officiating and burial made in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
