Roy Harrison Smith

Roy Harrison Smith, son of John and Elisa Smith, was born December 26, 1891, near Tingley, Iowa, and departed this life January 24, 1943, at the General Hospital in Los Angeles, CA., after a brief illness. He spent the greater part of his life in the Tingley Community, receiving his education from the country schools and the Mount Ayr High School.

On May 20, 1911, he was united in marriage to Mae Lanham of Tingley. They lived on a farm in Jefferson Township several years and later moved to Tingley. When the United States entered the first World War he enlisted and was stationed at Fort Riley, KS. He went to Los Angeles 14 years ago.

He leaves two children, Elgin R. Smith of Melrose and Mrs. Maxine McKenna of Ames; two brothers, Henry of Mount Ayr and his twin brother Ray of Tingley.

Funeral Services were held February 16 from  the Armstrong Funeral Home at Los Angeles, conducted by the chaplain of Facility Chapel and he was buried with full military honors in the military cemetery at Swatelle.
