John H.Gebhardt

John H. Gebhardt, son fo John and Julia Gebhardt, was born near Juneau, WI., June 25, 1874, and passed away April 8, 1943, at the age of 68 years, nine months and 14 days. He moved with his parents to Des Moines, where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Josie Paxton October 7, 1907. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters, Mrs. Earl Graham of Diagonal; Paul Gebhardt of Diagonal; Mrs. Paul Harris of Conway; Max who is serving in the armed forces overseas and Maxine at home.

He worked for a number of years at the railroad shops in Des Moines, later he devoted his life to farming and for the past several years he had been in ill health.

He is survived by his wife, five children, three grandchildren, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, two brothers, Earnie Gebhardt of Fort Atkinson, WI., and Arthur Gebhardt of Texas; two sisters, Mrs. George Hobson and Mrs. Gar Watkins, both of Des Moines; besides a host of friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Henry and Edward, and two sisters, Mrs. Julius Haubenschild of Jefferson, WI., and Mrs. Marion Owens of Chicago.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, April 11, 1943, at the Rhoades Funeral Home in Mount Ayr conducted by the Rev. W. Harold Smith, pastor of the Church of Christ.  He was laid to rest in the family lot in Woodland Cemetery in Des Moines.
