HANNAH IOWA CLOUGH MORRISON

ON FEBRUARY 18, 1865, MOTHER MORRISON WAS BORN IN PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, UNION COUNTY, IOWA AND WAS CHRISTENED HANNAH IOWA CLOUGH. SHE WAS THE SIXTH CHILD OF THIRTEEN CHILDREN BORN TO SAMUEL AND MARY CLOUGH.

UNTIL ABOUT TWENTY YEARS OF AGE SHE RESIDED A THE FAMILY HOME IN PLEASANT TOWNSHIP. SHE THEN WENT TO AFTON WHERE SHE ATTENDED NORMAL SCHOOL AND AFTER GRADUATION SHE TAUGHT SCHOOL FOR SEVERAL YEARS.

IN FEBRUARY, 1894 AT THE AGE OF TWENTY-NINE, SHE WAS MARRIED TO JOHN MORRISON. TO THIS UNION FIVE CHILDREN WERE BORN.

AFTER THEIR MARRIAGE, HANNAH AND JOHN MORRISON MADE THEIR HOME AT MOUNT AYR FOR ONE YEAR, LIVING THE FOLLOWING YEAR ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF TINGLEY. THEY THEN MOVED TO THEIR FARM HOME NEAR TINGLEY WHERE THEY LIVED UNTIL HER HUSBAND’S DEATH IN 1920. TWO YEARS LATER MOTHER MORRISON MOVED TO THE PRESENT FAMILY HOME IN TINGLEY.

DURING HER ENTIRE LIFE MOTHER MORRISON WAS ALWAYS ACTIVE IN CHURCH WORK, BEING A MEMBER OF THE MEHTODIST CHURCH.

ALTHOUGH FRAIL OF STATURE, MOTHER MORRISON BY NATURE WAS RUGGED…NEVER COMPLAINING…EVEN TO THE MOMENT OF HER DEATH. NO TASK WAS TOO GREAT FOR HER TO UNDERTAKE, AND SHE NEVER FAILED IN THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF ANY TASK. ALL HER LIFE, THOUGH BUSY FROM EARLY MORNING UNTIL LATE AT NIGHT WITH HER OWN MANY DUTIES AND THE MANY DEMANDS UPON HER, MOTHER MORRISON ALWAYS FOUND TIME TO HELP OTHERS AND TO ASSIST HER NEIGHBORS IN THEIR ILLNESS OR TIME OF NEED. SHE WAS LOVED BY EVERYONE, BOTH YOUNG AND OLD.

THOSE LEFT TO CHERISH HER MEMORY ARE HER CHILDREN, HERSCHEL J., VIRGIL, AMY,  AND CLARENCE OF TINGLEY; MILLARD OF FAIRBANKS, ALASKA; CLAUDE (A SON OF JOHN MORRISON BY A FORMER MARRIAGE) OF REDDING; TWO SISTERS, MARY A. HAIGHT OF ELLSTON AND AMY HARRISON OF RIDGEWAY, MO.; SIX BROTHERS, SAMUEL CLOUGH OF DEQUINCY, LA,  RICHARD CLOUGH OF COTTONWOOD FALLS, KS., JOHN CLOUGH OF TINGLEY, JOSPEH CLOUGH OF LAPORTE, TX., LEONARD CLOUGH OF PORTLAND, OR.,  AND OTTO CLOUGH OF OSCEOLA; TEN GRANDCHILDREN AND FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, ALL OF WHOM WILL MISS HER IN THEIR DAILY WALK OF LIFE.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FROM THE METHODIST CHURCH OF TINGLEY, TUESDAY AFTERNOON JANUARY 25  AT 2:30 O’CLOCK CONDUCTED BY REV. A.R. WEED, PASTOR. INTERMENT WAS IN THE TINGLEY CEMETERY.
