ROBERT A. DULANY

SECOND LIEUTENANT ROBERT A. DULANY, SON OF HARRY & FERNE DULANY, OF LONGMONT, CO., WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 28, 1920, NEAR MALOY, IN RINGGOLD COUNTY, IOWA.

AT AN EARLY AGE HE AND HIS PARENTS MOVED TO MOUNT AYR VICINITY. HE RECEIVED HIS ELEMENTARY EDUCATION AT A RURAL SCHOOL IN RICE TOWNSHIP & ATTENDED THE MOUNT AYR HIGH SCHOOL, FROM WHICH HE GRADUATED WITH THE CLASS OF 1937.

FOR TWO YEARS HE ATTENDED DRAKE UNIVERSITY IN DES MOINES, WHERE HE MAJORED IN ACCOUNTING, AFTER WHICH HE ACCEPTED EMPLOYMENT WITH THE SECURITY STATE BANK IN MOUNT AYR, WHICH POSITION HE ACCEPTLY FILLED UNTIL HIS ENLISTMENT IN THE ARMY AIR CORPS IN JUNE OF 1942.

HE BECAME A CHRISTIAN AT AN EARLY AGE AND UNITED WITH THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF MOUNT AYR.

ON AUGUST 24, 1942, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE WITH LOUISE FERREE, AND THEY MADE THEIR HOME IN COLORADO UNTIL HE WAS CALLED FOR HIS CADET TRAINING AT SANTA ANA, CA., ON NOVEMBER 17, 1942.

HE WAS LATER TRANSFERRED TO ROSWELL, NM., WHERE RECEIVED THE WINGS OF A BOMBARDIER. AFTER RECEIVING HIS NAVIGATOR WINGS AT HONDO, TX., HE WAS SENT TO MACDILL FIELD, FLORIDA, FROM WHICH BASE HE LEFT FOR OVERSEAS DUTY, LANDING IN ENGLAND ON APRIL 13, 1944.

ON MAY 7, 1944, AFTER MAKING FOUR MISSIONS OVER GERMANY, HE AND TEN CREW MEMBERS WERE REPORTED MISSING. HE REMAINED IN THE STATUS OF “MISSING IN ACTION” FOR ONE YEAR, UNTIL THE GOVERNMENT OFFICIALLY DECLARED HIS DEATH AS MAY 8, 1945.

HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY A BROTHER AND THREE GRANDPARENTS. HIS GRANDMOTHER, MRS. L.S. DULANY, PASSED AWAY IN SEPTEMBER, 1947.

ROBERT IS GREATLY MISSED BY HIS PARENTS, A SISTER, BETTY, AL OF LONGMONT, CO., AND UNCLE AND AUNT, MR. & MRS. TRUMAN DULANY, OF MOUNT AYR, AN AUNT, MRS. LUCY DULANY, OF SIOUX FALLS, S.D., SEVERAL COUSINS, MANY OTHER RELATIVES AND A HOST OF FRIENDS.
