Lena May Schardein

Lena May Schardein, daughter of William A. and Ida M. Foster, was born September 28, 1890, on a farm five miles south of Kellerton, in Ringgold County, Iowa, and passed away on January 3, 1970, in the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.

Mrs. Schardein attended the rural school at Buffalo Ridge and later the Kellerton High School.

She was united in marriage with John Luther Schardein on August 25, 1909, and they were priviledged to celebrate their sixieth wedding anniversary with friends and relatives on August 24, 1969.

During the years they shared together, Mr. and Mrs. Schardein lived in Missouri, Texas, California and Iowa and moved to Mount Ayr to retire in 1959. She united with the Red Top Christian Church of Hallsville, MO. Her membership was later transferred to the Church at Delphos, and then to the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lee Foster and Roy Foster.

Mrs. Schardein is survived by her husband; a sister, Lota (Mrs. Charles) Mosbarger, and a brother, Ira Foster, both of Kellerton, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held January 6, from the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Reverends Jeen S. Park and Norman Noble. Mrs. Lloyd Angus, vocalist, was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Rollin Noble. Casketbearers were Arthur Mosbarger, Charles Foster, Earl Schardein, Ferral Foster, Glenn Schardein and Raymond Schardein. Buriel was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.
