CLYDE R. SWINEHART

CLYDE R. SWINEHART, 85, OF CRESTON PASSED AWAY FRIDAY, JANUARY 11, 2008, AT THE CLEARVIEW NURSING HOME IN MOUNT AYR, IOWA.

CLYDE R. SWINEHART WAS BORN OCTOBER 8, 1922 IN DENVER, CO. TO HAZEL MARY (STONER) AND GEORGE JACOB SWINEHART. HE ATTENDED SHANNON CITY SCHOOLS THEN ENTERED THE US NAVY IN NOVEMBER 1940, SERVING UNTIL DECEMBER OF 1946 AND THEN SERVING UNTIL 1954 IN THE RESERVES.

CLYDE EARNED HIS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA WHILE ENLISTED AND LATER EARNED A DEGREE AT THE PASADENA CITY COLLEGE IN PASADENA, CALIFORNIA. ON JULY 12, 1943 HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO JEANNETTE SMITH IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA AND THEY LATER DIVORCED.

ON FEBRUARY 1, 1948, CLYDE MARRIED BARBARA JEANNE McCONNELL IN GRANT CITY, MO. THEY SETTLED IN ILLINOIS FOR THREE YEARS BEFORE MOVING TO CALIFORNIA. IN 1964 THEY MOVED BACK TO CRESTON WHERE THEY LIVED FOR  THREE YEARS. THEY RETURNED TO CALIFORNIA FOR 20 YEARS. IN 1987 THEY RETURNED TO CRESTON TO RETIRE.

A JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES, CLYDE WORKED IN A CANNING FACTORY, AS A MECHANIC, CATERPILLAR TRACTOR AND FARM IMPLEMENT DEALER, FILING STATION ENTREPRENEUR, FLIGHT LINE MECHANIC, LUMBER AND FEED YARD HAND, FOR THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY AS A BUYER, PRODUCTION CONTROL SUPERVISOR, INSPECTOR AND VENDOR LIAISON, A REAL ESTATE ENTREPRENEUR, ANTIQUE SALES AND RESTORATION AND VARIOUS OTHER SIDELINES TO STAY BUSY INCLUDING SQUARE DANCE CALLER AND INSTRUCTOR AND PTION FURNITURE MANUFACTURER.

CLYDE IS SURVIVED BY HIS TWO DAUGHTERS, HOLLI SUE (HUSBAND STEVE) HESSLINK OF CRESTON, IOWA; AND GLENDA (HUSBAND JOE) DAVIS OF JACKSONVILLE, FL.; TWO STEP-DAUGHTERS, CARMEN MATYLEWICZ OF MADISONVILLE, TN. AND RHONDA RAE CLYMER OF GONZALES, CA.; TWO SONS, MICHAEL R. (WIFE CHERYL) SWINEHART OF LAGUNA NIGEL, CA. AND GAYL (WIFE MONA) SWINEHART OF SAN DIMAS, CA.; TWO SISTERS, VERLA (HUSBAND DON) FITZGERALD OF NEVADA, IOWA AND VELMA (HUSBAND DON) FRANK OF WINTERSET, IOWA; BROTHER, RAYMOND (WIFE CHRISTINA) SWINEHART OF PORTLAND, OR.; A SISTER-IN-LAW, JOAN KELLEY OF SHOW LOW, AZ.; ELEVEN GRANDCHILDREN; 20 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN AND EIGHT GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. CLYDE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS; HIS WIFE, BARBARA ON DECEMBER 3, 2006 AND STEP-GRANDSON, PAUL AMUNDSON.

SERVICES WERE HELD MONDAY, JANUARY 21, 2008 AT POWERS FUNERAL HOME IN CRESTON WITH REV. DON FRANK OFFICIATING. BURIAL WAS IN THE ELLSTON CEMETERY NEAR ELLSTON. MEMORIALS ARE TO THE AVENUE OF FLAGS AT THE ELLSTON CEMETERY.
