FRANCES ANNE GARRITY WILMES

FRANCES ANN (GARRITY) WILMES WAS BORN ON JANUARY 30, 1944 IN CAMP GORDON, GA TO JOHN FRANCIS AND WILBERTA LEE (GERINGER) GARRITY.  ANNE PASSED AWAY ON SATURDAY, JANUARY 3, 2009 AT SAINT FRANCIS HOSPITAL IN MARYVILLE, MO AT THE AGE OF 64 AFTER AN EXTENDED ILLNESS WITH ALZHEIMER’S.

ANNE GREW UP IN DES MOINES, IA UNTIL AGE SEVEN WHEN HER MOTHER PASSED AWAY. SHE, BROTHER JACK AND SISTER KATHLEEN MOVED TO LIVE WITH THEIR GRANDFATHER, WILLIAM (BILL) GERINGER, ON A FARM SOUTH OF KELLERTON, IA.  THEY WERE JOINED ON THE FARM FIVE YEARS LATER BY SISTER PATTY, AGE FIVE.  THEY LIVED DOWN THE HILL FROM MARGE AND GENE (PETE) HOFFMAN.  ANNE AND MARGE HAD A VERY SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP THROUGHOUT ANNE’S LIFE.

UPON GRANDFATHER GERINGER’S DEATH, ANNE AT AGE 16 MARRIED ELDON STILL ON APRIL 11, 1960.

ANNE AND ELDON MOVED TO A FARM SOUTH OF KELLERTON AND PROVIDED A HOME FOR HER SIBLINGS, JACK AND KATHLEEN, UNTIL THEY GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND VENTURED OUT ON THEIR OWN.  ANNE AND ELDON DIVORCED IN JANUARY 1984.

ANNE WAS KNOWN FOR HER WARM AND WELCOME PERSONALITY AND FUN SENSE OF HUMOR.  SHE ENJOYED BEING ACTIVE IN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND HAD A FOND LOVE OF BASKETBALL.   SHE WAS ALSO AN EXCELLENT STUDENT.  ANNE NEVER LOOKED AT IT AS A SACRAFICE TO BE MARRIED AND PROVIDE A HOME FOR HER FAMILY, BUT WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WHEN THE SCHOOL RULES OF 1960 WOULD NO LONGER ALLOW FOR A MARRIED GIRL TO PARTICIPATE IN EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES; THUS HER BASKETBALL CAREER WAS OVER. THE SCHOOL DID ALLOW FOR ANNE TO PARTICIPATE AS A TEAM MANAGER FOR THE BASKETBALL TEAM.  SHE ALSO WORKED AS A BOOKKEEPER AT KELLERTON OIL WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL.  ANNE GRADUATED FROM GRAND VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL, KELLERTON IN 1962.

AFTER HIGH SCHOOL ANNED WORKED AT THE WELFARE OFFICE IN MOUNT AYR, IA UNTIL HER FIRST CHILD, BRAD ELDON, WAS BORN ON JANUARY 18, 1965.  SHE BECAME A FULL-TIME MOM AND FARM WIFE AND ENJOYED ALL THE FAMILY GET-TOGETHERS AND PLAYING CARDS.  ANNE’S SECOND CHILD, BETH ANNE, WAS BORN ON MARCH 20, 1967.

IN 1978 ANNE BECAME A POSTAL CLERK FOR THE US POST OFFICE IN KELLERTON, LATER TRANSFERRING TO MOUNT AYR AND RETIRING IN 2002 WITH 24 YEARS OF SERVICE.  ANNE ENJOYED THE “LITTLE CUSTOMERS” AT THE POST OFFICE AND IS REMEMBERED FOR ALWAYS GIVING BUBBLE GUM TO THE CHILDREN.

IN 1986 ANNE MET LEROY “ROY” WILMES AND BEGAN THE NEW ADVENTURES OF HER LIFE; TRAVELING TOGETHER, ENJOYING LIFE AT THE LAKE AND RELAXING CANOE TRIPS.  ROY AND ANNE MARRIED JULY 27, 1991 IN MOUNT AYR.  ANNE WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS ROY’S FAMILY AND 11 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES AND IMMENSELY ENJOYED ALL THE FAMILY ACTIVITIES, ESPECIALLY THE FAMILY REUNIONS AT ROARING RIVER STATE PARK IN MISSOURI.

ANNE AND ROY LIVED AT SUN VALLEY LAKE, ELLSTON, IA UNTIL THEY SHARED THEIR DREAM OF RETIRING TO TABLE ROCK IN SOUTHERN MISSOURI.  THEY EVENTUALLY RETURNED TO KANSAS CITY, MO AND THEN FINALLY, MARYVILLE, MO TO BE CLOSER TO FAMILY AS ANNE’S DISEASE PROGRESSED.  WITH THIS MOVE SHE TRANSFERRED HER CHURCH MEMBERSHIP TO SAINT GREGORY BARBARGIO CATHOLIC COMMUNITY, MARYVILLE.

ANNE WAS SO THANKFUL TO BE ABLE TO STAY IN HER HOME DUE TO THE PATIENT AND LOVING CARE GIVEN BY ROY AND HIS FAMILY.  ROY AND THE WILMES FAMILY WERE ANNE’S ANGELS ON EARTH.  ANNE ESPECIALLY LOVED THE LITTLE ONES; GREATLY ENJOYING THE VISITS BY THE GRAND AND GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

SHE WAS A LOVING, CARING MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER AND IS DEEPLY MISSED.

PRECEDING HER IN DEATH WERE HER PARENTS WILBERTA (1916-1951) AND JOHN F. (1917-1987) AND SISTER PATRICIA GARRITY (1959).

LEFT TO CHERISH HER MEMORY; HUSBAND LEROY WILMES OF THEIR HOME IN MARYVILLE, MO; SON BRAD STILL (CHERRYE) OF KELLERTON; DAUTHER BETH COMBS (MIKE) OF MARION, IA; FOUR STEP-SONS; ANDY WILMES (BETTY) OF TULSA, OK; TOM WILMES (SANDY) OF MARYVILLE, MO; LARRY WILMES (DIANNA) OF FLORENCE, AL; AND KENNETH WILMES (DAWN) OF NASHVILLE, TN; SEVEN STEP-DAUGHTERS, JUDY SOBBING OF GLADSTONE, MO; JANIE BURNS (STEVE),  KANSAS CITY, MO; JEANIE WILMES OF GLADSTONE, MO; JOY FARNAN (MIKE) OF RICHMOND, MO; JOAN MARKWORTH (ART) OF SMITHVILLE, MO; JOLENE GUINN (TOM) OF ORANGE, FL; AND JENNIFER SWAIM (BRUCE) OF JASPER, MO.
