Jerry Dean McAlexander December 13, 1948 — May 12, 2010

  Jerry Dean McAlexander, son of Kenneth and Virginia (Walters) McAlexander, was born December 13, 1948 at Creston, Iowa. He graduated from Mount Ayr Community high school in 1967. Jerry served in the Vietnam War from February 24, 1969 to September 28, 1970.

On March 3, 1972 he was united in marriage to Rosalie Cheryl Travis and to this union four boys were born, Jeff, Tim, Pat and Andy.

He was lovingly cared for by his wife, Rosalie, till the Lord called him home on May 12, 2010.

Jerry was a farmer who loved the land and the animals he cared for. Jerry was a member of the Tingley American Legion, an active member of Trinity Christian Church, a little league coach and also had played several years of fast pitch softball for town teams. He was a 4-H leader, swine and horse superintendent for 4-H and was on the county fair board for many years. He also had a passion for riding horses. During his teenage years he rode with the Humeston Saddle Club and then as his boys got big enough to ride, they rode in the Union County Saddle Club. He passed on his love of horses to his sons and also the grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalie; sons, Jeff (Tara) McAlexander, grandchildren Kennedy, Jalyn and Tanner; Tim (Sarah) McAlexander, granddaughter Caroline; Pat (Melissa) McAlexander, grandsons Dylan, Jordan and Collin, and Andy (Beckey) McAlexander; his parents, Kenneth and Virginia McAlexander of Ellston, Iowa; brother, Larry (Cathy) McAlexander of Treynor, Iowa; sisters, Shirley McAlexander of Beaconsfield, Iowa and Deborah (Danny) Van Horn of Bloomfield, Iowa; mother-in-law, Betty Travis  of Creston, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Bruce (Dee) Travis of Creston, Iowa and David (Jean) Travis of Creston, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Bruce Travis, Sr., and his grandparents, Riley and Ora McAlexander, Leland Walters and Helen Meier. 

Memorials are to the Trinity Christian Church and Hospice of Central Iowa. Arrangements were by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. 

Services were conducted on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Trinity Christian Church, Decatur City, Iowa with Rev. Terry Roberts officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett, Garylynn Imel, Rose McAlexander and Nancy Gates.

Casket bearers included Jon McAlexander, Jason McAlexander, Chris Jackson, Jamie Travis, Clint Travis, Adam Travis and Curt Travis.

Military rites were conducted by Emmett Liles Post #541 American Legion and National Guard Honor Squad.

Jerry was laid at rest in the Ellston Cemetery, Ellston, Iowa.
