Rue Ray Nickle February 18, 1916 – November 15, 2010

  Rue Ray Nickle, son of Flossie (Curry) Nickle and Ray D. Nickle, was born February 18, 1916 at the family farm south of Clearfield, Iowa.

Rue graduated from Clearfield high school and married Ruth Stingley on June 4, 1938 at her parents’ home near Bedford, Iowa. In 1950 they were able to move to and assume ownership of the family farm that has been in the Nickles’ family now for 155 years. Rue loved the farm and his family. Rue and Ruth loved to go camping. They traveled the midwest and spent several winters in south Texas. Rue was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clearfield.

Rue passed away on November 15, 2010 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Franklin Arthur Ross; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Nickle of Clearview Estates in Mount Ayr, Iowa; children, Leona Barker and husband George of Neola, Iowa and Randall Nickle and wife Candias of Clearfield, Iowa; four grandchildren, Susan (David) Cole, Nancy (Jim) Ross, Nathan (Stasia) Nickle and Natasha (Mitch) Gourley; great-grandchildren, Brynn, Breya and Brittlyn Nickle and Tytan Gourley; two cousins, Beatrice Hofmeister of Westminster, Colorado and Bill (Norma) Mercer of Creston, Iowa, and other relatives and friends. 

A memorial fund has been established to the Clearfield Cemetery. Arrangements were by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield.

Services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Clearfield on Thursday, November 18, 2010, with Rev. Shurmaine McAlpine officiating. Musician was Jim Ross.

Casket bearers included George Haidsiak, Dwain Callies, Jack Wackernagle, Craig Baker, Harold Nelson and Bob Bailey.

Honorary pallbearers were Carroll Baker and Dean Nelson.

Rue was laid at rest in the Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield.
