Crystal McNutt Gourley Decemberr 30, 1917 – June 30, 2011
Crystal McNutt Gourley, 93, of Bedford, Iowa, formerly of Diagonal, Iowa, passed away June 30, 2011 at the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center.
Crystal, daughter of Mina Winemiller and Alpha Hayworth, was born December 30, 1917 at Sheridan, Missouri. Crystal graduated from Bedford high school in 1935. She married Charles Dean McNutt on August 19, 1935. They lived in Taylor and Ringgold counties during their 58 years of marriage. As owners of the Diagonal Livestock Auction, Crystal worked in the office and the lunchroom. She was also a sales representative for Stanley Home Products for 30 years. After retirement, they worked as gate attendants for the Corp. of Engineers at Stockton Lake in Missouri for 13 summers and wintered in Alamo, Texas.
Charles passed away in March of 1993. In May of 1994, Crystal married Willis Gourley. They moved to Bedford in 1995. They wintered in Texas and enjoyed traveling. She especially enjoyed the two trips to Alaska. He passed away in August 2000.
Survivors include her children, Betty L. Miller of Creston, Iowa, Marvin McNutt of Bedford, Iowa and Steve (Sherrie) McNutt of Trenton, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Lucy McNutt of Marion, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, Kevin Klejch of Creston, Iowa, Charles Klejch of Diagonal, Iowa, Curtis (Karen) Klejch of Creston, Iowa, Rebecca (Brian) Keeney of Leon, Iowa, Dana (Diego) Castillo of Westerville, Ohio, Kristy Klejch of Creston, Iowa, Jeff (Stacie) McNutt of Solon, Iowa, Lori (Cory) Hoskins of Springville, Iowa, Larry McNutt of Diagonal, Iowa, Jason McNutt of Clarinda, Iowa, Robert McNutt, of Kansas City, Alicia (Mark) Stogdill of Grand River, Iowa, Justin Berry of Kansas City and Brett McNutt of Bedford, Iowa; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, H. Rebecca Morehouse of Sarasota, Florida and Anita Hayworth of Mount Ayr, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Mary Hayworth of Weston, Missouri and Helen Hayworth of Springfield, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sons, Kenneth and Larry David; infant daughter, Nancy; siblings, Edwin, Ben, Kyle, Quentin and Ivan Dellano Hayworth, Elsie Thompson, and two infant sisters.
Memorials are to the Diagonal community building and the Diagonal fire department.
Services were conducted at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal on Saturday, July 2, 2011, with Rev. Terry Roberts officiating. Musical selection was ‘The Old Rugged Cross.’
Casket bearers included Chuck Klejch, Curt Klejch, Larry McNutt, Jason McNutt, Brett McNutt and Jeffery McNutt.
Crystal was laid at rest in the Diagonal Cemetery in Diagonal.
