Perry Vaughn Woollums October 2, 1934 – February 9, 2012

  Perry Vaughn Woollums was born October 2, 1934 to John and Edith (Gray) Woollums. He passed away February 9, 2012 at the age of 77. He graduated from Ellston high school in 1953 and attended the RCA Institutes vocational school in New York City. Perry served his country in the U.S. Army from April 1957 to April 1963 stationed on the Islands of Hawaii, Guam and the Philippines.

On March 6, 1960, Perry was united in marriage to Pauline (Sally) Wimer and to this union four children were born, Garey Lynn, Brenda Rae (Lillard), Steven Duane and Laura Jeanette (Gilman).

Perry and Sally owned and operated Perry’s Radio and TV in Kellerton for 26 years before Perry took a job with the U.S. Post Office in 1985 where he proudly delivered the U.S. Mail to rural Ringgold county residents for over 20 years. He retired in 2001. He served on the Kellerton Volunteer Fire Department, the town council, was president of the Community Betterment group and served two terms as mayor of Kellerton. His favorite hobbies included being a scout leader, playing cribbage, softball, bowling, golf, snooker, horseshoe pitching and ice cream.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Carl; brother-in-law, Virgil Schmidt, and father-in-law, Howard Wimer.

Survivors include wife Sally of 51 years; children Garey (Rhonda) Woollums, Brenda (John) Lillard, Steven (Joni) Woollums and Laura (Mike) Gilman; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Reba Schmidt; sisters-in-law, Helen Woollums and Jessie Woollums; mother-in-law, Lavena Wimer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Karen Wimer, Billie and Patty Wimer and Charles and Cloris Bullman; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of friends. 

A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.

Services were held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Sunday, February 12, 2012, with Pastor Charles Bullman and Jack Baker officiating. Musicians included Carol Anne McCreary, Barb Belzer, Grace Warin, Jodi Wurster and Nancy Sackett.

Casket bearers were Shea Woollums, Travis Woollums, Nathan Woollums, John Lillard, Mike Gilman and Andy Sickels.

Honorary pallbearers included Christopher Woollums, Wesley Gregg, Jacob Gilman and Lucas Gilman.

Military rites were conducted by Kellerton Post #676 and the Iowa Honor Guard Unit.

Perry was laid at rest in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton.
